WEST COVINA – Miguel Santana, the top budget guy with the City of Los Angeles, was charged by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office today with misdemeanor driving under the influence in connection with his March 26 arrest while driving home from a charity dinner.

Santana, 40, was arrested in the Covina area by California Highway Patrol officers. He was freed on $5,000 bond.

Interesting twist in this case that everyone in the media is missing....

The charity event Santana was attending that evening before his much publicized arrest was a Charity Dinner in Honor of Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley, the man who is now prosecuting him for driving drunk.

Could this actually be a "Conflict of Interest" for the DA to prosecute this case?  It will be interesting to see Mr. Santana's defense.  BTW.  Mr. Santana is a good guy, from what I can gather.  I hope he is doing well and hope that he can get "some recovery" under his belt.

Santana is scheduled to appear for arraignment on May 25 in Department 6 of the Superior Court in West Covina.

A prosecutor has not yet been assigned to the case, which was filed by Deputy-in-Charge Mark L. Evans of the West Covina office.

Perhaps the next time District Attorney Cooley is honored at a Charity event, it will be "booze-free" so these type of cases could be avoided.

According to the complaint filed against Santana, his blood alcohol level was “0.15 percent by weight and more,” double over the legal limit.  BTW....

Don't drink and drive.  Let's stop these political booze fests from taking place once and for all.
