Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

I have been asked to recommend a couple of EFFECTIVE and TRUSTED CHARITIES to support to help the victims of the Haitian earthquake, around 24 hours ago.

Reports are coming in that hundreds of thousands may have perished in the earthquake that ravaged Haiti last night, including the Catholic Archbishop of Port-au-Prince. Untold numbers of survivors lack food, water, shelter, and medical care. Haiti needs our assistance immediately.  More than 80% of all Haitians belong to the Catholic faith.  These two charities are located in Haiti and work miracles each and everyday.

So, to help support the Haitian people, I am suggesting that you support and donate to two trusted relief and development organizations currently working in Haiti.

Catholic Relief Services staff in Haiti is responding immediately to the earthquake that rocked Port -au- Prince, the capital of Haiti. Tuesday night the agency made an immediate commitment of $ 5 million for emergency supplies.

In a brief phone conversation before communication was lost, CRS Country Representative Karel Zelenka described Port -au- Prince as "covered with a plume of dust from damaged buildings."

The second organization is the Haitian-based development group Fonkoze. Fonkoze is a well-respected organization that serves the poor of Haiti by offering economic development grants. This work will be critical as Haiti rebuilds. You can donate to Fonkoze here.

This is from Fonkoze:

"We have limited information but here is what we know. Anne Hastings and all of her head office staff are alive, and we have no reports of any staff being killed outside of Port au Prince at this time. However, we have heard that some family members of Fonkoze staff have been killed. We do not have any reliable information on borrowers and their family members, but we imagine that there has been some loss of life, injuries and homes and businesses being destroyed. "

So give today.  Even if its only $5 or $10....every little bit helps!

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti in their time of need.
