BREAKING NEWS:
ROSEMEAD, Calif. -- Horror broke out today at one of Southern California's most prestigious Catholic high schools.
Police have arrested a 16-year-old student for allegedly stabbing a principal at Don Bosco Catholic High School here.
According to authorities, the sophomore boy asked to see principal Gary J. Catalano because he had some paperwork that he needed to show him. Once inside the principal's office, the student showed the principal his paperwork with one hand, and with the other hand, he stabbed him in the back twice with a pocket knife.
"He then fled the area and was apprehended a block away by school officials and sheriff's deputies. He was taken to the sheriff's temple station for questioning and the principal was taken to a local hospital expected to live," said Nicole Nishida of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities say that the attack was unprovoked and there is no known history of past problems between the two.
"It makes you kind of second guess what security is like around here, but other than that, it's real random ," said Adrian Orozco, a 12th grade student at the school. "People aren't usually like this."
The apprehended student is expected to be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Don Bosco Technical Institute is a private school with an all-male campus with about 700 students. Many view it as a prestigious establishment.
Catalano has been at the school for about two years, and students describe him as well-liked, and they're surprised such a violent incident occurred.
