Meet Luis Arias.
He is my "Political Jokester of the Week."

Arias, who lost his bid to unseat Bell Gardens City Councilman Daniel Crespo on both election day and in a recount held this past Monday at the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters Office.

After all the ballots were recounted, Arias lost to Crespo by 6 votes, and the Registar of Voters announced that their would be "NO change on the outcome of the election, and that Mr. Daniel Crespo will be elected to the Bell Gardens City Council."

But in a bizarre press statement to the Eastern Group Publications, Arias is claiming that he actually won the recount.

Huh?  Are you kidding me?  What planet is this Arias living on?

Arias said his lawyer advised him not to comment on the termination of the recount but issued the following statement on Wednesday morning.

Bell Gardens political OUTSIDER Luis Arias (far left standing) during Monday's Bell Gardens City Council Recount in Norwalk.  Arias came up 6 votes short of winning, but he thinks he won in a bizarre press statement.

“I, Luis A. Arias, with no contemplation in my mind, based on the facts presented to me and the public on the day of the recount; have been candidly elected by the people of Bell Gardens, for the people of Bell Gardens, as their representing City Councilman.”

Hey, Luis, take the very wise advice of the attorney you hired. You lost, and you will not be sworn into office.

BTW...Who is Luis Arias to "declare" himself as the winner of an election?

That job goes to Mr. Dean Logan. the Registrar Recorder of the County of Los Angeles, not someone like Arias who only registered to vote for the first time ever earlier this year.

I wonder what goes through the minds of power hungry candidates like Luis Arias? If they don't underdstand how elections are conducted, they have no business being elected officials.  Period.

For this reason, and for the actions of Mr. Luis Arias, he is the Recipient of my "Political Jokester of the Week!"

Congratulations, Luis....you finally won something!
