SHOUT OUT: City of Hawaiian Gardens is Getting Back On Track!

Location of Hawaiian Gardens in Los Angeles Co...

Tonight, I have been watching the Hawaiian Gardens City Council Meeting, here in Cerritos on Verizon Channel 16.

Hawaiian Gardens is going through a lot of hard times lately, and watching the residents tonight, I see a community full of pain, hurt and anger.

I wanted to congratulate The Garden's Mayor Mike Gomez and City Administrator Ernesto Marquez for beginning an "open conversation" with the community that is based upon respect, truth and candor. People are hurting in HG. Young children are at risk of heading in the wrong direction. Tonight I saw a city wanting a fresh start, and one with lots of questions.

City politics in The Gardens is a contact sport. Rough and Tumble Politics is the Rule in The Gardens. Three incumbents (Betty Schultze, John Heckerman and Michi Canada) will be facing tough reelection campaigns this November.

Open conversations with the community is vital and is the foundation of our Democracy.

I can only hope that the upcoming election in HG is civil, spirited, and one run on facts, passion and hope for the future.
