Roger Waters, the main figure behind the legendary rock band
Pink Floyd exploded into a political diatribe directly attacking Donald Trump,
the Republican Party, and even those in the Middle East during his concert on
Sunday night at Desert Trip here in the Coachella Valley.
I get when musicians have a political message.
I get when they use their public persona as a platform.
What I don’t get is why I had to sit and be a victim of Mr.
Waters hate speak during a concert that cost me hundreds of dollars to attend.
Politics and music go hand in hand. I get that.
However, the legendary music that Mr. Waters has produced
over my entire lifetime with his band mates with Pink Floyd, need to tone down
their hatred for those they do not see eye to eye with and stick to do what
they do best, entertain the masses.
80,000 to 90,000 had just watched The Who prior to Pink
Floyd taking the stage. Did Roger Daltry
and Pete Townsend get political in their music set? Yes. They simply asked those attending Desert Trip
to “VOTE” and “VOTE your conscience” this November. That was refreshing.
I also got a horrific case of food poisoning when I attended
the concert on Friday night. Yep. Bad street tacos that were priced at $16 for
two. My guests flew all the way up from Mexico to attend Desert Trip. They laughed over the piss poor quality…and
beers started at $12 a bottle…
Desert Trip was a trip alright.
A trip that I will
not soon forget.
I hope the organizer can get it right next year.
