Actor Tommy Lister, Accountant Arcelia Chavez Agree To Plead Guilty To Conspiracy Charges In Mortgage Fraud Scheme That Cost Banks $3.8 Million

Actor Tommy Lister is looking at some "hard time" behind real jail bars. Yep. Not the role of a lifetime!
LOS ANGELES – Actor Tommy Lister, who has appeared in approximately 100 movies, and a San Fernando Valley accountant were charged today in federal court with conspiring to commit mortgage fraud in a scheme that led to $3.8 million in losses.

Lister, who is also known as “Tiny” and “Zeus,” a 54-year-old Chatsworth resident, was charged this afternoon in a criminal information with one count of conspiracy.

A second person involved in the scheme – Arcelia Chavez, 48, of Northridge, who is a self-employed certified tax preparer – was also charged today with conspiracy.

In plea agreements that were also filed this afternoon in United States District Court, both Lister and Chavez agreed to plead guilty to the conspiracy charges.

The court documents filed today outline a scheme that ran from November 2005 through June 2007 and involved Lister, Chavez and several other individuals, including: Sami Sager Sweiss, formerly a mortgage loan officer based in Woodland Hills; Jason Patterson, a real estate agent in Long Beach; J.R., formerly a manager of a Washington Mutual Bank branch in Woodland Hills; and Wanda Tenney, formerly an escrow officer based in the San Fernando Valley.

Lister conspired with these individuals to fraudulently acquire title to four residential properties he could not afford. With the help of these individuals and others, Lister obtained mortgages for the four properties through fraudulent means, including submitting mortgage applications that included inflated income and asset amounts, fabricating bank statements and falsifying other documents to substantiate the fraudulent statements in the loan applications, and falsifying escrow records to deceive lenders into believing Lister had made required down payments.

In addition to fraudulently obtaining the mortgages, Lister and his co-conspirators concealed from lenders the fact that he would receive kickbacks from sellers after the real estate deals closed.
Relying on the fraudulent applications and documents, lenders issued mortgages totaling $5.7 million. Lister subsequently defaulted on the four mortgages, causing those lenders and their successors to lose approximately $2.6 million.

After acquiring title to the four residential properties, Lister obtained fraudulent home equity lines of credit on each of the four properties. Lister drew down a total of $1,146,000 in cash from the four HELOCs, but did not pay back any of the principal.

Lister also admitted in his plea agreement that Chavez aided and abetted him in obtaining one of the fraudulent mortgages and a fraudulent HELOC by preparing a false CPA letter, as well as fabricating W-2s and a pay stub. The false CPA letter stated that Chavez had prepared Lister’s tax returns. Chavez separately admitted in her plea agreement that she prepared the false and fictitious documents, actions that caused lenders to lose approximately $1.1 million.

Lister and Chavez will be summoned to appear in federal court in Los Angeles in September.
The charge of conspiracy carries a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.
On July 30, 2012, Sweiss pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count before United States District Judge Dale S. Fischer. As part of his guilty plea, Sweiss admitted that he conspired with Lister, Patterson, Tenney and Chavez to commit mortgage fraud.  Sweiss is scheduled to be sentenced on March 18, 2013.

The charges in this case are the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and IRS-Criminal Investigation.

I want to salute Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian for reaching out and helping the many victims of that horrific accident in Valley Village this past week.

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian on Thursday announced that the community will join together to assist the Good Samaritans who risked – and in two cases lost – their lives helping a car crash victim last week.

“No one who puts themselves in harms way should have to struggle to pay the bills that accrue as a result of their altruism,” Councilmember Krekorian said. “This community is tremendously appreciative of the efforts and sacrifices of these Angelenos who came to the assistance of a stranger, and I’m proud to join with them in showing our support with financial assistance.”

At a news conference with the families of the victims, local business owners, police and fire personnel and neighborhood leaders, Councilmember Krekorian announced that Valley Interfaith Council, a 501[c]3 nonprofit organization based in the San Fernando Valley, will lead the fundraising efforts. Information on how to donate is available at cd2.lacity.org or below.

Latina Huntington Park Council Member claims city problems caused by ‘Americans’

By Randy Economy
A public comment from a Mexico-born Huntington Park City Councilwoman has sparked a controversy after she blamed “the Americans” who served as past elected officials for problems with residential and business water meters.
Councilwoman Rosa Perez, who was elected in 2011, stunned the mostly Spanish speaking audience in attendance at Huntington Park City Hall last week when she blasted residents with the comment “I wanted to come into (elected) office, and to see what the problems are in the city and try to bring solutions to them. A big problem is that people think that when the Americans were in office everything was all great and when the Latinos came in, then all the problems came in.”
Perez continued in Spanish by claiming, “but the Americans did a lot of these contracts that are costing us (Latinos) much money.”

Several residents immediately reacted with loud yells in protest to the comments.

WATCH CHRIS MATTHEWS THROW SOME WHOOP ASS TO GOP CHAIRMAN REINCE PRIEBUS

NBC News Commentator Chris Matthews exploded at Reince Priebus on Monday's "Morning Joe," tearing into the Republican National Committee chairman and accusing his party of playing the race card.

You can't make this stuff up.  Priebus is way over his head on this interview, but Matthews was like a Bull in a China Shop.

Matthews was PISSED over Mitt Romney's recent birth certificate joke, and false claims that Obama ended work requirements for welfare.

"That cheap shot ... was awful," Matthews said, referring to the joke. "It is an embarrassment to your party to play that card ... you are playing that ethnic card there."

As Priebus apparently laughed and co-host Joe Scarborough tried to get a word in, Matthews continued, "you can sit there and giggle about it, but the fact is your party is playing that card." "You think Mitt Romney's playing the race card?" Scarborough asked. "There's no doubt he did," Matthews said. Co-host Mika Brzezinski speculated that Romney may have said what he said because he is an "awkward joker."

Priebus said Matthews was just trying to "push his brand" with his "monologue." "It just seems funny that the first joke he ever told in his life was about Obama's birth certificate," Matthews said.

Anyway.... This was just plain good television!  Better than the Real Housewives of New Jersey and Beverly Hills COMBINED!

Yesterday, Bolden became "The Voice of Mars."

Bolden's words uttered to the Curiosity Rover on the surface of Mars, which in turn sent them back to NASA's Deep Space Network on Earth.

Cool stuff.

In a nut shell boys and girls, the successful transmission means Bolden's space-faring comments are the first instance of a recorded human voice traveling from Earth to another planet and back again, according to NASA.

Now that is impressive, Young Jedi.
