On Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 6:30PM, hikers from Tujunga found a deceased man near the base of a waterfall at Vasquez Creek, Big Tujunga Canyon, Angeles National Forest. The hikers notified Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station deputies. The body was found in a difficult to reach area concealed from view by heavy brush. Due to the approaching darkness and danger to Los Angeles County Sheriff's search and rescue team members to effect the body recovery, the team members waited until Sunday to recover the man's body. On Sunday, Emergency Services Detail (ESD) deputy paramedics with the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau reached the location by air. The man's body was airlifted from the site by ESD deputies and the Sheriff's Air-5 Rescue helicopter crew and is in the custody of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. The identity of the deceased man will be determined by the Office of the Los Angeles County Coroner.
