....convicted killer Jose Frutuosco |
LOS ANGELES – The convicted killer of an
east Hollywood theatre director and producer was sentenced on Monday to state prison, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin sentenced Jose Fructuoso, 27, to 16 years to life in state prison. Fructuoso was convicted on Nov. 23, 2011, of one count of
second-degree murder. Jurors found true an allegation that the defendant personally used a
dangerous weapon, a
knife.
Deputy District Attorney Mario Haidar prosecuted the case. Victim Bennett Bradley, 60, was killed in his apartment on or about New Year’s Day 2010. Bradley’s throat was slit twice with a knife by Fructuoso. Bradley’s body was not discovered until Jan. 2 by co-workers after he failed to show up at work.
The victim and the defendant, who lived about a block away from one another, were acquaintances.
The
prosecutor said physical evidence revealed that the victim’s bedroom had been ransacked and jewels were taken. Evidence presented at trial further revealed that blood found at the victim’s residence and mobile phone records linked Fructuoso to the murder.
Three days after the killing, officers of the
Los Angeles Police Department arrested Fructuoso outside his residence. Inside of the home, officers recovered the murder weapon, a knife. The victim’s
DNA was found on the weapon, the prosecutor said.
