I am beyond sad tonight.  I clicked on the web site of the Long Beach Post to learn that Shaun Lumachi, its Publisher, has died in a automobile accident in Miami.  Shaun was only 33 years old and his passing has stunned just about everyone in Long Beach.
Shaun was an inspiration to me in so many ways.  I loved the fact that he lived his "dream" day in and day out with the LB Post, and was a true gentleman in so many ways.  Tonight is the 49th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade and his web site is doing a "live stream" of the annual festive event, and it is a fitting tribute because he really was one of the "BRIGHTEST LIGHTS" in Long Beach.
We take a lot for granted in life.  Shaun was an inspiration.  Still trying to get my "arms" around this sad sad news.
My heart goes out to EVERYONE at LB POST and to the THOUSANDS of FRIENDS he leaves behind.  Please keep him in your PRAYERS this day....

Los Angeles County Supervisor has issued the following statement on Shaun's passing this evening:
I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of of the tragic death of Shaun Lumachi. Shaun was a great friend and loyal supporter.  He was a young man devoted to Long Beach, deeply involved in many local organizations.  He believed in the importance of active civil participation as evident by his hard work and commitment to the Long Beach Post and keeping the community informed and engaged.  Julie and I send our thoughts and prayers to his family at this very difficult time.

Shaun was a great guy, a great friend and always fun and happy to be around! Never a dull unhappy moment with him around. He was always happy and witty and enjoyed his life and especially his new wife. My wife, I and our 2 daughters are devastated at Shaun's passing. The accident was a instant loss of a great person that has and would of made the world a greater place. My family's hearts go out to his family and his wife Dezire who is my wife's best friend. There are foundations in Shaun's name being set up right now so please donate to the causes that Shaun supported if you can! Please say a prayer for Shaun's wife and his family and friends as this is a hard time especially during the Holidays. -Mike
