SANTA FE SPRINGS -

Sad news tonight. Beloved former Santa Fe Springs City Councilman and Mayor Gustavo R. Velasco died at 9:45 a.m. today from complications due to liver disease.

Gus was 71 and he leaves a life long legacy of accomplishments that would take hours to list here on this blog post.  He lived his entire life in Santa Fe Springs here in our "neck" of the woods, and worked as a long time member of the city staff, rising to the position of Assistant City Manager, and then after his retirement, he was overwhelming elected and reelected to serve as a Member of the Santa Fe Springs City Council.

A viewing will be held next Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rose Hills in Whittier.  Burial will take place next Friday at 10:30 a.m., also at Rose Hills.

If you have a special memory about Gus, please share it here.

God Bless you GUS!  Thanks for making "the world around us" more bright, and full of love!

I just found out about former Councilmember Gus Velasco's death. I was saddened by the news because I worked for him years ago and he was such a kind man. He took a genuine interest in the people who worked for him and actually took the time to get to know them. I have such good memories of Mr. Velasco and have only good things to say about him. He was a great role model and a great man, may he rest in peace.
