A DNA Chart..... |
Dewayne Todd Kimble, who also admitted the special circumstance of multiple murders, was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by Torrance Superior Court Judge Mark Arnold, said Deputy District Attorney Todd Hicks.
“This was the best result considering the defendant’s mental state and the wishes of the families of both victims for justice and resolution of the case,” Hicks said.
Kimble, 45, pleaded guilty to the murder of Stacie Victor, 32, and Sharon Shelby, 36. Victor’s headless body was discovered on July 10, 2002. She was later identified through DNA.
Shelby’s body was discovered on June 26, 2005, in the parking lot of a strip mall near the Forum. Victor’s murder remained unsolved until 2005, when an investigation into Shelby’s murder implicated Kimble in both, Hicks said.
At one point, Kimble, whose prior convictions include rape, burglary and attempted murder, was secretly living at the Inglewood Women’s Club. When the illicit entry was later boarded up, he allegedly set fire to the building, causing extensive damage. He also was charged with assault of two women on separate occasions, including one at the Women’s Club.
In exchange for his plea, one count each of arson, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, intent to commit rape and second-degree robbery were dismissed.
