Image via WikipediaLove this bust out of Long Beach today. After a three-month rash of commercial burglaries an arrest has been made and a large quantity of stolen property has been recovered.
Here is what happened that led to today's arrest of John Fordyce, age 50 of Lakewood on various felony charges.
I covered this crime here on my blog...
In March of 2011, Long Beach Police detectives in North Division began to notice a rash of burglaries at two different Public Storage facilities. One at 4140 Cherry Avenue and the other at 3207 South Street.
Investigators were able to access surveillance videos from the business and saw an adult male on the property that they recognized from a burglary arrest at the same location in late 2010. In the video, the male can be seen entering the property with an empty truck and dolly and leave the location with the truck loaded with property. Police detectives identified parolee Joseph Fordyce, a 50-year-old resident of Lakewood, as the person in the video. That damn video gets em' every time.
Fordyce is on parole for commercial burglary and was released from prison in February of 2011, one month before the burglary series began. Fordyce served only 7 months of a 16-month prison term that he was sentenced to for commercial burglaries, specifically to storage units at these businesses.
Armed with a search warrant, detectives went to Fordyce's residence and placed him under arrest. They were able to recover numerous items of evidence and are still looking for the respective owners of most of the property.
If you have been the victim of a burglary from either of these two facilities please contact Long Beach Police Detectives Dave Fritz or Dave DeMasi at (562) 570-9818. If you have property stored at either of these facilities and have not checked on your property in a significant amount of time, the Long Beach Police encourage you to visit your storage unit to check on your property.
