Jonathan Fernandez Acosta: John Glenn High School student succumbs from injuries after being struck on bike by suspected drunk driver

Jonathan Fernandez Acosta, a 15 year old Norwalk resident passed away last Friday from injuries he suffered when his bicycle was struck by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver.
Acosta was a freshman at John Glenn High School. His death took place just two weeks before the conclusion of the current school year.
At the time of the incident, Acosta was riding his bike east on Alondra near Pioneer Boulevard when he was struck by a car driven by Anna Chavez, 38 of Whittier.  The teenager was just beginning to cross the street.
Chavez was initially booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving and faced arraignment on Tuesday at Bellflower Superior Court on various felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter.  She was being held on a $100,000.00 bail according to documents obtained by the Los Cerritos Community News.
According to Traffic Investigator Jeff Tibbett’s of the Norwalk Sheriff’s Department,  Acosta was initially booked at the Norwalk station but was transferred to the Lynwood Detention Correctional Facility for Women. 
He also confirmed that Acosta clung to life for one week before he passed away at Long Beach Memorial Care Unit last Friday at around 7 a.m.  The blood alcohol level of Acosta was not disclosed. The case will be prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
