Long Beach Police Department (California)Image via WikipediaLOS ANGELES – A former Long Beach Police Department officer who pleaded guilty in February to embezzlement was sentenced today to county jail and other terms, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dorothy Reyes sentenced Damian Ramos, 33, to 365 days in county jail and three years of formal probation. Ramos was given credit for 190 days of time already served.
Because Ramos pleaded to a non-serious, non-violent felony offense, he received one day of credit time for each day served in county jail, meaning the defendant has already served the entirety of his county jail term.
Ramos was charged in August 2010 after allegedly taking four firearms that were to be booked as property. Two firearms were recovered, the other two remain missing. The defendant pleaded guilty on Feb. 10, 2011, to one count of embezzlement by a public officer. Deputy District Attorney Alfred Coletta of the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case.
