1:17 a.m. PACIFIC COAST TIME (Los Angeles)
CAIRNS, Australia —
It could be bigger than the United States version of Hurricane Katrina, that literally destroyed much of the Southeast Gulf coast a few years ago.
Meet Cyclone Yasi. The Super Category 5-PLUS Cyclone is about to hit the coastline of Queensland, Australia later today, and it could literally destroy thousands of miles of precious area of the famed area. Right now a "State of Emergency" is in effect. Many are fearing the worst. Cyclones rarely change their direction, unlike hurricanes that are much more predictable.

Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes and are literally being stuffed into shelters in northeastern Australia. It is the powerful cyclone in the country's history and it is barreling toward a slew of some of the most popular tourist areas Down Under.
I am PRAYING that ALL of you will all be safe and sound.
I have been watching the BBC and checking as many on-line sources to get the latest on Yasi.
The scary thing is that "cyclone proof" homes could be blown apart by winds expected to reach 300 km (186 miles) per hour when it hits later on Wednesday afternoon and into the night in Australia.
"We are facing a storm of catastrophic proportions," Queensland state premier Anna Bligh said after Cyclone Yasi was upgraded to a maximum-strength category five storm. I just saw Bligh on BBC and you could see the fear in her eyes and the shake in her speech.
More than 400,000 people live in direct path of Yasi, including the following:
- Cairns
- Townsville
- Mackay
- The Great Barrier Reef

the Hon. Anna Bligh.
Praying for you all Down Under!
Maybe as much as two meters of rain is expected. Holy crap.

I live in Carins. We cannot tell you the fear that we are all experiencing. We hope it isn't as bad as our local government officials are telling us. I have evacuated into a local concrete gymnasium.
