Whittier, CA

The community is in shock tonight.

We now know the names of the three Whittier residents who died in an apparent "murder-suicide" yesterday afternoon in a quiet well keep neighborhood..

The residents on Janine Drive are coming together in Prayer and are comforting each other as they come to  grips of the magnitude of the horrific afternoon that ended in the worst possible manner.

Today, the Los Angeles County Coroner official announced that the three victims who died as members of one family.  They are:
  • Raul Escobedo, age 67
  • Debra Escobedo, age 60
  • Mario Escobedo, age 31
An intense investigation is now underway by members of law enforcement.

Debbie Escobedo was a 1st grade teacher at Maggee Elementary in the city of Pico Rivera. All three family members lived in the same neighborhood for as long as anyone can remember.

Their house on Janine is located across from Murphy Ranch Elementary School and is nearby La Serna High School.  Both campuses were placed on lock-down and were evacuated.

My heart goes out to the Escobedo Family and to all of their loved ones. There are many unanswered questions about motive and cause.  I hope everyone who reads this post, can pause and say a Prayer for this entire family and for the community who loved them.

If you have a special memory or thought about the Escobedo Family,  please feel free to share it here in my comment section below.  More details later. I hope something positive can come out of this situation.

Tonight, is a time to reflect.

I only knew Debbie and we shared the love for our children. She was a very proud parent. She always found the best in each of her three children. It is always easy to speak of a successful child (Monica)and was Oh so happy that Michelle gave her her beautiful grandchildren. She knew Mario had some issues and although she didnt elaborate to much she accepted him as well. She found it difficult to share as Mario grew she tried to support him and his music however now looking back she did not speak of him as much as the years passed. I know many people are angry and rightfully so. I just couldnt comprehend how a son/brother could do this. My mother consoled me and said it was not her son who did this but his illness (mental) that did this. Debbie, Raul, and Mario are now at peace. Living with mental illness is difficult for the entire family especially for parents such as Debbie and Raul who did things for and with their children. I firmly believe that their legacy will live on through thier daughters and grandsons. Girls Monica, Michelle be strong and please forgive. Forgive him for he does not knw what he has done. Amen and God Bless You.

Thank you for posting this. They will be missed by family and friends. Prayers go out to the Escobedos, the Moyas (Deb's maiden name was Moya) and to all their friends. Deb and Raul were always so much in love. I knew them both before they married and had children. Via con dios, one of Deb's cousins.
