Laguna Beach, CA

What a mess.  I really feel sorry for the people of Laguna Beach.  This is literally paradise on earth....most of the time.  But, when Mother Nature decides to turn her ugly force on this tony beach side enclave it is downright ugly.
After seven days of massive amounts of rain, Laguna Beach city crews are working feverishly to clear the roads of debris and mud and to try to get life back to normal.

Public Works crews are actively cleaning South Pacific Coast Highway.  The flooding caused by four inches of rain within a few hours of downpour on Wednesday.

Altogether, Laguna Beach received 10 inches of precipitation in the last seven days.  That's a years worth of rain in a week.

After South Coast Highway is reopened, the next priority will be to clear the streets in the downtown area and Laguna Canyon Road. The downtown streets of Beach, Broadway, and Forest Avenue were expected to be opened sometime during the early evening hours. Ocean Avenue will remain closed to vehicular traffic throughout the night and into Thursday morning.

Laguna Canyon Road will be opened from Forest Avenue to Big Bend only to residents and business owners. From Big Bend to the SR-73 Toll Road, Laguna Canyon Road will be closed. At the earliest, it might be opened in the late morning or early afternoon tomorrow.

No significant rain storms are expected for the remainder of the week, but City specialists have been assessing the hillsides along with several structures throughout town. At this time, the City is evacuating thirteen homes on Hidden Valley Canyon Drive for the next 24 hours. A City Geologist examined the area and noticed signs of potential instability. This is the only area of Laguna Beach which is under evacuation orders.

Preliminary damage assessments indicate that 26 businesses have suffered mud and water damage. In addition, several homes throughout Laguna Beach have also been affected by the storm.

Debris bins have been placed in the Albertson's and Vons Parking Lots. Tomorrow morning, two additional debris bins will be located on Ocean Avenue in the Peppertree Lot and next to Hennessey's Tavern.
Filled sandbags are available to residents and business owners in the public parking lot across from the Festival of Arts.   Got pics and clips?  Send them to me at economy4abc.blogspot.com@gmail.com.
