Another young person has died from gun violence in our community.  It was a deadly afternoon near the popular South Bay area campus of Banning High School.  These shooting crimes always sadden me. Here are some of the details....

Jose Torres, a 17-year-old senior from BHS,  was shot to death Wednesday outside the campus, near bus benches at Avalon and Q Street.  The location of the shooting was adjacent to the famous Banning High School Football and Track Stadium.

Was it gang related, or was Torres in the wrong place at the wrong time?  Members of the Los Angeles Police Department are now investigating.

Another teen was with Torres but was not injured.

How many more of our children are going to be gunned down in the violent streets of Los Angeles and Huntington Park, and Lynwood, and Compton?

Tonight a mother and father has lost their son.  A grandparent was told that they won't be attending a graduation in June, but need to prepare for a funeral for their grandson.

Banning High School has some of the brightest students in our area.  Tonight, my heart goes out to this great campus.

Lets keep our children safe.  Lets allow the legal system take its course. Lets catch those responsible for this murder.  If it was gang related, lets make sure that the proper people are held accountable.

RIP

Sad. Just sad. I live near Banning High School and hear all the helicopters and sirens this morning. Very angry that our children are getting gunned down.

Why are these killings going on left and right?

Brightest minds in the area? I beg to differ. I went there and saw about 70 percent of my peers drop out between 9th and 12th grade (class of 2008). The school/community has many problems. This tragic incident is reflection of that.

Indeed, tragic and sad and unfortunately this is what many people in this community, the vast majority in the 30-40 yr. old range, paise this type of life style (gangbanging). I have witnessed many young kids now a days 14, 16, 17 that are gangbangers and their parents allow it because thats what they are. These "parents" think it's the thing to do and these kid are consumed by it and dont know any better. It's a shame and these old folks need to get their damn act together for their kids sake!
