SHERMAN OAKS --

It was a horrific accident.

Tonight the community trying to understand just how a popular student athlete could have his life taken away in such a tragic matter.

Conor Lynch, just 16 years of age, and a standout student athlete from Notre Dame Catholic High School in Sherman Oaks was hit and killed by a driver during a rain storm this afternoon while jogging with his cross country teams mates.

The tragedy has sent a shock wave across the San Fernando Valley.
Witnesses say Lynch was running on a rain soak Woodman Avenue at Addison Street when a woman in a car literally ran him over.  The woman, who has not been identified, was taken into custody.

According to media reports, Lynch and members of the Notre Dame High School Cross Country team crossed the street on a green light, and Lynch was near the back of the running pack, and he may have tried to cross the street while the light was turning from green to yellow to red.

Even though the woman stopped several blocks away, she was arrested and faces various charges, including felony hit and run.

My heart goes out to everyone at Notre Dame High School.

This Cross Country team is one of the very best in California, and tonight I want everyone to say an extra prayer Conor and his family and so many friends.

If you have a special memory of Conor, please feel free to leave a comment here on my blog.

I love Notre Dame High School, and as a devout Catholic this tragedy has really made me understand how fragile life is.

God Bless you Conor!
