BREAKING NEWS: DISCOVERY CHANNEL BUILDING IN SILVER SPRING, MD EVACUATED AS MAN HOLDS SOMEONE HOSTAGE

Silver Spring, MD:

Police emergency response teams have responded to the Discovery Channel headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland with the reports of a man with a gun and possible explosives strapped to his body.

The building is being evacuated and CNN is reporting on this breaking news.

Montgomery County police received the call at about 1 p.m. local Eastern time. The call came from One Discovery Place, the channel's headquarters.

I have some friends that work for the Discovery Channel who work in this building. I'm praying that this situation ends safely....and soon.

While working for a tiny community newspaper in Southeast Los Angeles County, I worked doggedly to expose the biggest public corruption case in Los Angeles County history when I unearthed a massive pay to play scheme inside the Assessor’s Office that led to the arrest of then Assessor John R. Noguez and four others. However, politics has been in my DNA since I was a child.
