Palmdale, CA

Mother Nature is sending a gift to the residents of Palmdale today as the stubborn Crown Fire is now getting under control with calmer winds and a cooler airstream from above.

Firefighters had the fire 62 percent contained and expected to make more progress as the day went on, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Evacuation orders have been lifted, residents are returning back home, and more than 1,000 firefighters continue to work on the ground and in the air to douse the flames.

14,000 acres have been destroyed and dozens of structures and homes have been lost.
