WHITTIER - A public vigil and memorial will take place on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Laurel Elementary School for the Edgar and Cynthia Hernandez, the two students that were killed along with two other family members  -- a brother and sister -- in that horrific crash on Sunday on the 5 Freeway in Newhall.

The vigil will take place in front of Laurel Elementary School, 13550 E. Lambert Road in Whittier.  The community is invited to attend, and encouraged to show their support by wearing white to the vigil.

The school's Twitter page (listed as laurelelem) posted this tweet on Wednesday night:

"Vigil tomorrow 4/15 at 630pm. Please wear white."

Grief counselors have been a the Whittier elementary school all week helping students and staff deal with the loss of second-grader Edgar, 8, and his sister, third-grader Cynthia, 9, and their sister 5-year-old Xochitl and 12-year-old cousin Luis Villegas of Oakland.

The crash took place late Sunday night when a pickup truck overturned on the rainy freeway, which was slammed into by the Nissan Altima carrying Villegas; the Hernandez children; their mother, Yessica Milan, 27 who is still in critical condition.  Milan is an active member of the LES PTA.
