Votes being counted in Montebello Recall Election. Stay Tuned for results

BREAKING NEWS:

Have voters in Montebello tossed two controversial members of the City Council out of office today?

Ballots are arriving at City Hall from today's hotly contested recall election of Councilmember’s Robert Urteaga and Councilwoman Kathy Salazar.

If Salazar is recalled from office, the voters will choose from a field of three possible replacements including Business owner Jorge Manzur, News Editor Alberto Perez, and Planning Commissioner Maria Chavarria -Halpern.

If Urteaga is tossed out of office, voters will select either Engineering Consultant Bobby Gutierrez, Communications Director Richard Garcia, Program Assistant Larry Salazar or Program Assistant Christina Cortez.

As soon as results are in, I will be posting them.

Recall supporters claim that Salazar violated California Fair Political Practices Commission rules by allegedly laundering campaign money to her tax-exempt business where she draws a salary; Salazar’s major campaign donors are Special Interests who also contribute funds to her tax-exempt business.

Urteaga pled guilty to Felony Grand Theft for stealing $30,000 and was indicted on 5 counts of check forgery before he was elected to the Montebello City Council. His opponents charge that Urteaga lied to the community about his criminal past, and that he lacks "morals" as a City Council Member.

Stay tuned. I love these nasty campaigns in Montebello...they are classic!
