A 25-year old Cerritos woman was killed early Sunday morning on the 110-Harbor Freeway, it is being reported today (Monday) in the Long Beach Press Telegram.

A Lomita man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after he struck and killed a pedestrian near the 223rd Street overpass on the Harbor Fwy near Carson.   Leonard Frederick, 63, failed a field sobriety test as his wife, two kids and an elderly woman sat and waited in his 2007 Kia Sedona.

It is being reported that Frederick was driving about 70 mph in the southbound lanes of the freeway about 2:30a.m. Sunday when an unidentified 25-year-old Cerritos woman stepped out into the road and began waving her arms as though she was trying to get the attention of passing cars, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Frederick didn't have time to react, and struck the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.  Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.  As soon as her identity is made available, I will pass it along to you here.
