Breaking News: 1,000 Pink Slips heading to Los Angeles City workers, compliments of da' Mayor!

LOS ANGELES --

Memo from Da' Mayor of Los Angeles:
To: The Rank and File Employee
RE:  "Don't let the door hit you on the way out"

Dear Workers:
Sorry, your laid off.  Have a nice day!
Tony V!

Today, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ordered the immediate layoff of 1,000 city employees to help to balance the city's budget. The Mayor, who campaigned on the promise of job creation, and to represent the rank the file workers, has now turned his back and done a 360 degree change.

The mayor ordered the positions eliminated Thursday, a day after the city council voted unanimously to postpone any action on job cuts for 30 days while they explore other options.  Villaraigosa says his move will strengthen the city's credit rating and its long-term fiscal health.

I say the Mayor should cut expenses first.  Get rid of the waste at City Hall, and there is TONS of it.

I wonder how many of the Mayor's staff are going to be laid off?  Hello?  Mayor?

He says more senior city staffers can fill some of these positions, allowing about 360 employees to avoid layoffs.  The city's budget analyst, Miguel Santana, says the drastic cuts are necessary because of the city's $208 million budget gap.
