Memorial Services for Santa Monica Mayor Ken Genser to be held Sunday, January 24 at Santa Monica High School Barnum Hall


Funeral and Memorial arrangements have been announced today for City of Santa Monica Mayor Ken Genser who passed away peacefully on January 9, 2010 with family and close friends by his side.

A public memorial service will be held on January 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Monica High School’s Barnum Hall, 601 Pico Boulevard, followed by a reception at the East Wing of the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main Street.

Important information on parking:
Free parking is available for the memorial service and reception at the Civic Center Parking Structure located at 333 Civic Center Drive and at the Santa Monica Civic Parking Lot. The entrance for both parking locations is at Civic Center Drive and Fourth Street. Parking for people attending the memorial service who have a Disabled Person Parking Placard or license plate can access parking on the Santa Monica High School campus by entering Olympic Blvd. from Fourth Street and turning right into the parking lot. Accessible parking is also available in the Civic Center Parking Structure and the Civic Auditorium lot.

Mayor Ken Genser served on the Santa Monica City Council for 21 years, since 1988. He was elected Mayor three times by Council in 1992, 2000 and 2008. Ken was Mayor Pro Tempore in 1991 and 1999. He led on issues ranging from affordable housing and tenant protection, land use and zoning policies to environmental quality, workers rights, parks, public safety and funding for the schools.

Mayor Genser was 59 years old. He is survived by his mother Marcia Genser, his sister Harriet Beck and his niece Mara Beck.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to the Ocean Park Community Center, 1453 16th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404-2715, (310) 264-6646.
