BREAKING NEWS:  Los Angeles County Assessor Rick Auerbach has had it with being the top tax collector here and is hanging it up at the end of March.

"I never thought of myself primarily as a political figure, even though voters have honored me with their trust in three elections," Auerbach said. "I have long felt that I would know when it was time to retire and turn this job over to the next generation, and that time is now."

Auerbach, 61, said he is recommending that the county Board of Supervisors not appoint a successor, but allow Assistant Assessor Robert Quon to handle the office while other candidates vie for the position in the June election.  Quon has said he will not run for assessor.

"The next assessor should be someone from within the department," Auerbach said.

Sorry, Mr. Auerbach.

Your office is important to the People.

We must hold an election to determine who will be overseeing this massive role and Billions upon Billions of REAL DOLLARS.
