Letters: A great take on "school rankings" from former Cerritos Resident John Cabori who now calls Cypress Creek, Texas his home!

Here is another note on the High School Rankings that appeared this weekend in the US News and World Report. of the "Best High Schools in America."   This is from former Cerritos resident John Cabori, who now lives with his wife and family in the Greater Houston, Texas area.  Thanks for the note John!   BTW...John and his sister Diana and brother Mike and I all attended Carmenita Junior High, and Cerritos High School together here back in the 1970's. The pics here show the campus and football stadium of Cypress Woods High School in Texas...very impressive looking campus!

CYPRESS CREEK HIGH SCHOOL in TEXAS

Randy:
It is always interesting to see how schools rank.

Most parents do not have any idea how their schools rank overall. Many of us never find out until our children start applying to college. The true test for our children is how they perform once they enter college. That's when they find out how their school ranked and even better they find out whether or not they properly prepared themselves for college.

The high school my children attended was Cypress Creek High School here in Texas. Both seemed to have very good SAT and ACT scores and several good choices for college.

Once in college my son seemed prepared and in fact adjusted nicely. His high school class actually had about 85 students whom ranked at the highest level so to be even a B average student in such an environment was quite an accomplishment.

The bottom line is that the colleges know which schools rank high on their list and they recruit accordingly. My wife and I now know we made the right choice. We simply applied common sense. I said to my wife "I like the way you turned out so we should raise our children in Texas and live where you went to school".

It didn't hurt that we both had good jobs, could buy a bigger house, raised both as God fearing people, were able to save enough money to buy nice things and travel to nice places, buy the best instruments for band, help pay for flying lessons and instill a value system that they can carry with them the rest of their lives.
