I have decided to help California political leaders Ted Costa, Eric Eisenhammer (left), Tim Snipes and Assemblyman Dan Logue (below)  in the fight to get AB 32 suspended here in California.  The group has started a new web campaign at http://www.suspendab32.org/, and are asking for help to turn this cause into a "movement."

Costa, has also invited Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to join the effort along with a group called the "People's Advocate’s" to establish a new measure called "The California Jobs Initiative" by suspending AB 32 for one year until a new initiative can get before the voters in 2012.

The initiative Costa speaks of was filed with the Attorney General for title and summary last week.   Both Assemblyman Dan Logue and Congressman Tom McClintock are proponents along with Costa.

The proposed measure suspends AB 32 until such a time as California’s unemployment gets under 5.5%. When Gov Schwarzenegger signed AB 32 into law in 2006, California’s unemployment rate was only 4.8%.
Now it is a whopping 12.5%.   Many studies now coming out show AB 32 will cost over $100 billion to
implement and be a real job killer. In his letter, Costa told Schwarzenegger that "creating new jobs is the best thing we can do right now".

Citizens to Suspend AB 32 is an educational and initiative project that aims to get California back to work by suspending our state's stifling, job-killing global warming law. We aim to put pressure on the Legislature to suspend AB 32 and look instead at real solutions that are sustainable both environmentally and economically. Citizens to Suspend AB 32 aims to educate citizens on the burden placed on our state by this misguided policy.

In a nutshell this is what AB 32 costs taxpayers here in California:

Cost California up to 1.1 million jobs
Cost the average family $3,857 a year in greatly increased expenses for housing, transportation, food/energy
Cost $49,691 per small business
Result in a total loss of output of $182.649 billion
Devastate budgets of California social services agencies through massive losses in tax revenue

The group intents to keep the pressure up on the Legislature through a petition drive and aim to show massive support among Californians for Assemblyman Logue's AB 118, a bill that would stop AB 32 and free entrepreneurs to once again create jobs.

According to Costa, "If the political establishment fails to act, we are prepared to take this issue to voters at the ballot box in 2012."
