ARTESIA, CA - Manu Patel has over the years, come to be linked with Kaiser Permanente and more recently with the Rotary Club. He joined the insurance business over 30 years ago in 1978 and has been with Kaiser for the last 20. As testament to his hard work and dedication he is among the top five brokers for Kaiser for many years.

As he says, “I can handle the toughest cases. Those who cannot qualify or find it hard, come to me to fix the problem, and in the majority of cases, I can help out.”

Though he also works for Anthem Blue Cross and other companies, 99 per cent of his business is for Kaiser.

But his work in Kaiser is old hat. Manu Patel has now joined the alternative/renewable energy bandwagon. Along with two partners - Joel Zubaidi and Dilip Singhania - they have formed the Domingo Lake State Co. based out of San Diego county. The 600 acres land they own is being used to develop wind and solar energy and clean water from the Domingo lake. The projected cost is of $153 million. They have contracted for the construction of 18 windmills for $65 million . Solar products manufactured in India will be brought to their plant. They already have a contract with San Diego Water & Power Co. and their project is part of the 10,000 green houses planned in the county. The project is set to take off in full steam by mid 2010.

Says Manu Patel, “ we are glad that our project will generate employment for the Indian American community. We will be hiring for positions in engineering, solar energy and consultants.”

Manu has his fingers in many pies. Apart from being President of the Cerritos-Artesia Rotary Club, he is also Vice President of the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. He revived the Chamber with the help of Artesia Mayor Tony Lima and Rotary’s Dr. Steven Sherman, and is trying his best to help local businesses in the area sort out their problem and issues with the city.

As Rotary Club President he has initiated a number of schemes for social uplift in India, starting elementary schools in Gujarat and Bombay, and providing clean water to villages. Rotary is also working on making India ‘polio free’ by 2010. His pet project, which is in the pipeline, is a student exchange program between students from the ABC school district and Indian students.

From January 1, 2010, Manu Patel will take over as Commissioner of City of Artesia in charge of Parks and Recreation centers.  Manu Patel’s office is located at 11646 183rd St, Artesia, CA – 90701. Phone: 562-822-0725
