It looks like Congresswoman Janice Hahn has her back against the wall in the last month and a half in her heated campaign against Steve Napolitano for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
It looks like Congresswoman Janice Hahn has her back against the wall in the last month and a half in her heated campaign against Steve Napolitano for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Janice Hahn has always been a political huckster for fat cat union bosses....and LA County Registrar of Recorder Dean Logan is going after her and her campaign full force...
This is what Camp Napolitano said in a media statement today....
"Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan confirmed that the Janice Hahn for Supervisor campaign exceeded the $150,000 aggregate limit on campaign contributions from political action committees or PACs and that Congresswoman Hahn must return the excess funds to cure the violation. However, without explanation or authority, Registrar Logan once again extended the deadline for Hahn to cure the violation to Oct. 20, which is well into the final weeks of the campaign," the release stated.
"In establishing yet another new deadline, Logan added 10 days to an existing 30-day extension, which gives Hahn a total of 70 days to pay back the money. The action by the Registrar to give Hahn 70 days is not authorized under Proposition B, the county’s campaign finance law, which allows only 30 days to return the money. The Registrar notified the Hahn campaign of a possible violation on August 10 and gave Hahn until Sept. 9 to return the money," Napolitano's campaign claimed in the press releases.
Napolitano campaign also opined.....
"Logan also warned Ms. Hahn that she may have raised additional illegal campaign contributions and advised her to review the amount of money she has raised through political action committee contributions. This is the largest campaign contribution violation in the history of L.A. County,” said Kevin Wen, Campaign Manager for Steve Napolitano Campaign. “Yet, the Registrar keeps moving the goal posts back, giving Hahn more and more time to use illegal contributions to operate and promote her campaign instead of having to return them within 30 days of the original notice, as required by law. We think voters deserve to know why Prop B isn't being enforced.”
Also, the Napolitano campaign revealed on Friday that "earlier this month, a political ethics law attorney representing the Napolitano campaign sent a letter to Logan pointing out that Hahn has more accurately collected $573,319 in contributions as of June 30, 2016, a figure that far exceeds the legal limit of $150,000 per election cycle. Without these extensions, Ms. Hahn could face fines up to three times the amount of illegal campaign contributions she has accepted — or nearly $1.8 million — for her race for LA County Supervisor, according to Proposition B. The law flatly prohibits candidates from soliciting or accepting more than $150,000 for each primary election campaign and $150,000 for each general election campaign, from all political action committees. In addition, Proposition B does not authorize any extension of time to return excessive contributions. It is designed to reduce the influence of special interest groups that “use their financial strength to attempt to exercise control over candidates and the electoral process.”
Here is my take on the situation....
We have campaign laws here in California to protect the public and voters from corrupt politicians, especially from career politicians like Janice Hahn who only cares about the Hahn Family Dynasty here in Los Angeles County.
Steve Napolitano is one hundred percent on point in his objections to how Janice Hahn has run this campaign.
This is about power and control of billions of dollars...and who ever wins....needs to be clean as a whistle instead of being propped up by seedy background players who are lurking in the shadows of the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration in Downtown.
