Edson Escalon, an 18-year old felony suspect wanted for attempted murder has been captured by Norwalk Sheriff’s early Tuesday morning after a routine traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit, the lock down of a local neighborhood, a K-9 Deputy biting the suspect, and an eventual arrest.
Norwalk Sheriff’s Captain Pat Maxwell, told Los Cerritos Community News that deputies patrolling near the 105 Freeway and Studebaker Road at around 3:20 a.m. spotted a suspect that matched the description of a man who was wanted in the connection of a December 28th shooting at The Torch Room Bar in Norwalk.
Maxwell said that deputies saw suspect Edson Escalon, 18, a resident of Norwalk driving as a passenger in a vehicle throughout the streets of Norwalk in the middle of the night Tuesday. Hours earlier, a $2 million arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Escalon in connection with the Torch Room shooting incident.
Maxwell said after a short vehicle pursuit, Escalon jumped from his vehicle and then allegedly pointed a hand gun at officers.
Deputies opened up several rounds of gun fire at Escalon who eventually eluded them into a nearby neighborhood.
Maxwell said that the entire neighborhood was placed on lockdown for more than three hours from Studebaker Road west to Hoxie Avenue.
A K-9 unit was deployed to the scene in search of Escalon, and the dog eventually tracked down Escalon who was hiding in the rear of a residence at the 13100 block of Halcourt.
Escalon suffered dog bites, and was immediately taken into custody and transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
