WHITTIER: Grief Conselors go to Laurel Elementary School in wake of death of Hernandez Family children

Laurel Elementary School is located at Lambert Road and Laurel Avenue in East Whittier.

WHITTIER, CA -

Grief conselors were dispatched to Laurel Elementary School in Whittier on Monday after two of its students died in that tragic freeway collision in Newhall that I blogged about earlier.

Edgar A. Hernandez, 8, and Cynthia J. Hernandez, 9, attended second and third grade, respectively, East Whittier City School officials said today in a brief statement to the media and community. Two other family members were also killed in the accident who did not attend Laurel Elementary. They include brother Xochitl M. Hernandez, age 5, and their 12-year-old cousin Luis Villegas from the Oakland East Bay area.

"Our condolences and prayers go out to the family. They were wonderful children and will be greatly missed by all who knew them." A Memorial Fund is being established to help fund the family with funeral expenses for the four children.
