The election is being driven by an exclusive 15-year contract awarded to Athens Services in July 2008 to haul all trash in the city. Athens raised $548,251, some of which have been doled out to other local city council candidates, but a huge majority of this campaign cash has been spent in Montebello, according to documents.
Trash haulers raised $242,746 through its "Save Our City" campaign.
In Montebello, challengers Giuseppe Veneziano, Jamshid Jimmy Javaheri, Nancy Cadena-Perez, Frank Gomez, Richard Garcia and Jorge Manzur will appear on ballots alongside incumbents Bill Molinari and Rosie Vasquez (seen here are Molinari and Rosie Vasquez).
