ABOVE INDICTMENT #1.
Were do I begin.  This is was an amazing day. Finally...THE FIRST ARREST  has been made in the criminal probe into pay to play activities deep inside the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office this morning.

Today was a whirlwind.  Got a "heads up" that INDICTMENT #1 was HAPPENING TODAY.  First set of hand cuffs were presented to Scott Schenter, Property Appraiser Specialist in the West District Office.

Scott Schenter: HE'S #1!

I published the now famous "Schenter's List" of 179 properties that were represented by property tax agent Ramin Salari, and a couple of others....that I will be focusing on in the coming days....

My phone started ringing at crack of dawn.... I think I need to get use to not having much sleep over the next several weeks.  Los Cerritos Community Newspaper was a bee hive all day long.   Got a call from David Cruz from KTLK 1150 AM to do a 10 minute update at 3:20
Univision Radio

p.m.  Check.  Then, Ray Lopez, Producer of the John and Ken Show on KFI asked me to do the "top of the 3 p.m. hour" to talk about today's arrest.  I did both of those interviews in the backseat of my Editor Jerry Bernstein's new car driving up the 605 Freeway.

Next stop was a one hour studio interview with Univision Radio Network talk show host Fernando Espuleas.  Got to the studio of 1020 KTNQ AM in Glendale...at 3:50 p.m. and Fernando and I were like paper and glue.  A PERFECT fit.

It was the best and most on target interview about today's arrest.

BREAKING: Scott Schenter arrested as Noguez investigation continues

By Randy Economy
An arrest has been made in the criminal probe into pay to play allegations at the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office this morning, and many more are expected....
Just got this note from LA County DA Steve Cooley...

Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley said that a former appraiser with the county Assessor’s Office was arrested today for allegedly falsifying department documents and unlawfully lowering property values by $172 million.
Scott Schenter, who worked from 1988 to early 2011 as a county appraiser, allegedly slashed values on multi-million dollar homes, condos and businesses in Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. Schenter allegedly secured campaign contributions from the owners of those homes and business for Assessor John Noguez.
Schenter, 49, was arrested this morning in Beaverton, Ore. He is being held on $1.5 million bail.
“The magnitude of Schenter’s suspected betrayal of public trust is almost inconceivable,” Cooley said in a prepared statement. “We believe his actions are not isolated.”
Schenter’s arrest is part of an investigation launched last year by the D.A.’s Public Integrity Division into allegations that Noguez and several of his staff had reduced property values for wealthy clients of Ramin Salari, a tax consultant and campaign contributor to Noguez.
“This investigation is active, ongoing and multi-faceted,” Cooley said.
Deputy District Attorney Susan Schwartz filed a felony complaint for arrest warrant Wednesday, charging Schenter with 60 felony counts, including 30 counts of falsifying accounts and 30 counts of falsifying records. Schwartz said refund checks were issued to property owners in counts 1-30. In counts 31-60, devaluations were reversed before refunds could be issued.
The unauthorized reductions were discovered by Schenter’s supervisor in January 2011.
Arraignment information for Schenter will be announced later. If convicted, he faces up to 33 years in state prison.
Los Cerritos Community Newspaper will have additional details throughout the day.

LA Mayor candidate Kevin James blasts hiring of additional parking enforcement officers

Kevin James.  Is this the next mayor of LA?  Stay tuned.
Hey, pay attention.  Kevin James, candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles is once again making way to much sense in his campaign in next years race. I like Kevin. I have gotten to know him over the past couple of months and trust me, this guy has all the "right stuff" be fix LA City Hall from top to bottom. Kevin is taking on the parking meter wars in LA today.  Nice, job, Kevin.  His campaign just sent me this statement about the "Parking Wars" and his plan on how to fix the mess.  Keep you posted.

KEVIN JAMES CALLS FOR REFORM OF PARKING FINE STRUCTURE IN LA
Los Angeles, May 21st – Today Mayoral candidate Kevin James announced his opposition to the current Mayor's proposed increase in parking fines, and his misguided budget "solution" of hiring more parking enforcement officers to increase revenues. James believes that parking fines in Los Angeles are already too high.
James’ opponents in the Mayoral race have joined with Mayor Villaraigosa in approving parking ticket fine increases six of the last seven years. Kevin James declared, “Parking fine increases will end if I’m Mayor.” “Parking fines must be lowered. It’s bad for business, our City and its residents. Most of us do not have a Gold Card Desk,” continued James. James recognizes that residents, visitors and tourists are shocked at the price of parking in Los Angeles. When high parking fines are added many recipients choose not to pay the fines, stuff the tickets in a drawer hoping they will simply go away. This trend of ignoring the tickets results in less revenue for the City. “Businesses are suffering because customers are being soured by “rip-off” rates that people believe are being used to fund an inept, inefficient and corrupt City government. The higher the parking fines go, the higher the City’s uncollected revenues will go.” Kevin James believes the high rate of uncollected revenues in the City proves that parking fines should be lowered. A person receiving a $20 parking ticket is much more likely to pay $20 than a person who receives a $78 parking ticket. People that receive $78 parking tickets pay nothing and then stay away from the area that resulted in the issuance of the ticket. Many of the parking tickets issued in our neighborhoods are issued on street-sweeping day. However, residents argue that the street-sweepers are rarely seen, but parking enforcement officers are waiting to pounce. If the street is not being swept tickets should not be issued. This provides another opportunity for city departments to coordinate with one another in order to benefit city residents. For more information and to view his whole plan for Los Angeles, please visit Kevin James’ campaign website at

www.kevinjamesformayor.com

Kevin James has been a radio broadcaster for over eight years where he has been an advocate for hard working residents, neighborhood councils, and common sense solutions to the challenges that face our city. Prior to being a broadcaster, James was an Assistant U.S. Attorney where he received the Director’s Award for his distinguished skills and dedication to cracking down on illegal conduct. James served on the Board of AIDS Project Los Angeles for six years. Currently, James is an entertainment attorney. He plans to continue his neighborhood council tour and focus on local issues throughout the campaign.

Emails between Los Angeles County Assessor and powerful tax agent published by Los Cerritos Community Newspaper

What's THE REaction:

I just wanted to remind all of my readers.....

Yesterday Los Cerritos Community Newspaper published hundreds of internal emails between embattled Los Angeles County Assessor John R. Noguez and controversial Arizona tax agent Ramin Salari.

Both Noguez and Salari are the focus of a wide ranging investigation by members of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office of Public Integrity over “influence peddling” and other “pay to play practices.” Los Cerritos Community Newspaper was the first media outlet in Southern California to report on the massive probe back in early February.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to publish hundreds of emails that we received from the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office during that past three years between Assessor Noguez and Mr. Salari,” said Hews. “The public deserves to see firsthand how Mr. Noguez and Mr. Salari conducted themselves during the past several years,” said Hews.

"It is quite astonishing to see how Mr. Salari treated people within the office, he acted like a assistant assessor”.

“We are committed to providing 100% accuracy in our coverage into the activities of the Los Angeles County Assessor’s office, and we have dedicated thousands of hours of time in our series of articles on the current probe,” Hews said.

Feel free to REPOST this on your FACEBOOK or other social media site or blog.

Chief Charlie Beck held a press conference on Friday night and announced that the Los Angeles Police Department has arrested 20-year-old Bryan Barnes, who lives near USC, and 19-year-old Javier Bolden of Palmdale, who is suspected of being an accomplice in the April 11, shootings of Ming Qu, and Ying Wu.
