I want to publicly thank the publisher and editor of the Los Angeles Times for giving proper credit to Los Cerritos Community Newspaper on their on-line edition over the ongoing expose on the District Attorney's probe of Los Angeles County Assessor John R. Noguez. I also want to thank the dozens of good, honest people who work inside the Assessors office for their per
sistence, drive and determination for wanting to get "out in the open" once and for all. This is about a free and open society and how a local community newspaper can still be a vital voice in the world around us.

LCCN has a tremendous amount of respect for Los Angeles Times Pulitzer Prize winning reporters and editors who are now actively involved in this probe.

I sure hope the rest of the media corp here in Southern California can follow our lead.

LOS ANGELES – An architect who designed and oversaw construction of a luxury home in the Hollywood Hills where a veteran Los Angeles firefighter perished in a blaze a year ago was charged by the District Attorney’s Office today with one count of involuntary manslaughter. Gerhard Albert Becker, 48 (dob 1/30/1964), was scheduled to appear for arraignment this afternoon in Los Angeles Superior Court Department 30. Becker was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport when he flew to Los Angeles from Spain on Saturday. He has remained in custody since his arrest. Becker was charged in case No. BA 393940 with one count of involuntary manslaughter. Bail was recommended at $2 million by Deputy District Attorney Sean Carney of the Target Crimes Division. The defendant, a German national, has been out of the country since the Feb. 16, 2011, blaze that claimed the life of Glenn Allen, 61. Allen was killed when a burning ceiling fell on him. He was a firefighter for more than 36 years. The Los Angeles City Fire Department’s arson investigators worked closely with detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division on the nearly year-long probe leading up to the filing of today’s case. The fire in the multi-level newly constructed home in the 1500 block of Viewsite Drive in the Hollywood Hills was believed started by a negligently installed inside fireplace designed for outside use only. Prosecutors said Becker designed the home and was the main contractor. He was charged after investigators found evidence of grossly negligent construction. If convicted, Becker faces a four year state prison term

Jose Fructuoso Sentenced in 2010 Murder of Theater Director Bennett Bradley

No comments:
What's THE REaction:
Director Bennett Bradley....
....convicted killer Jose Frutuosco
LOS ANGELES – The convicted killer of an east Hollywood theatre director and producer was sentenced on Monday to state prison, the District Attorney’s Office announced. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin sentenced Jose Fructuoso, 27, to 16 years to life in state prison. Fructuoso was convicted on Nov. 23, 2011, of one count of second-degree murder. Jurors found true an allegation that the defendant personally used a dangerous weapon, a knife. Deputy District Attorney Mario Haidar prosecuted the case. Victim Bennett Bradley, 60, was killed in his apartment on or about New Year’s Day 2010. Bradley’s throat was slit twice with a knife by Fructuoso. Bradley’s body was not discovered until Jan. 2 by co-workers after he failed to show up at work. The victim and the defendant, who lived about a block away from one another, were acquaintances. The prosecutor said physical evidence revealed that the victim’s bedroom had been ransacked and jewels were taken. Evidence presented at trial further revealed that blood found at the victim’s residence and mobile phone records linked Fructuoso to the murder. Three days after the killing, officers of the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Fructuoso outside his residence. Inside of the home, officers recovered the murder weapon, a knife. The victim’s DNA was found on the weapon, the prosecutor said.
