JASON KAPONO COMING TO LA LAKERS? WELCOME HOME, ALMOST, JASON!

BACK IN THE HOOD?  I SURE HOPE SO! Image by Keith Allison via Flickr

I  read in the LA Times Sports Section tonight that the Los Angeles Lakers could soon have Jason Kapono donning the purple and gold.

Stop the presses.  This is some of the most hopeful news coming out of Laker Land in months, as far as I am concerned.  Jason is like rock star down here in Cerritos, Lakewood, Hawaiian Gardens and Artesia.  Yep, he is one of "us," a local kid who has lived his dream and made it against all the odds to make it to the NBA.  I got to know Jason during the time he played round ball here in the ABC Unified School District at Artesia High School back in the late 1990's.  What a team that was at Artesia High School back then. The BEST in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.  Jason signed with the UCLA Bruins and achieved greatness and a maturity and that amazing leadership.  Jason was at the top of his Class at Artesia High School, one of the SMARTEST KIDS in the CLASS.  We miss Jason here, and now that their is a "possibility" that he could end his career as an LA Laker makes me "rethink" my opinion of Team Buss and the operations going on over at Staples.  Toast to you, Jason.  Hey, how have your cooking skills been lately?  You've come a long way...

RIMA FAKIH BUSTED: Former Miss USA gets popped with DUI, Is Celebrity Rehab in her future?

English: Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih photographed...Image via WikipediaRima FakihImage by pageantcast via FlickrBy Randy Economy
Rima Fakih was one of my all time favorite Miss USA's.  Okay, I admit, I watch Miss USA each year.  Anyway, remember when I posted the racy pics of the ex-Miss Michigan pole dancing in a strip club way back when?  Rima will have a new pic that will stick with her for the next chapter of her life, a drunk driving mug shot that was taken last night after she was arrested on DUI charges in here home state.

"TMZ reports that the beauty queen was arrested in Highland Park, Michigan on Saturday for suspicion of drunk driving. Fakih tried to deny the incident initially, tweeting on Saturday, "Let's clear things up now.... I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih."
But Doraid Elder, her attorney, told the Detroit Free Press, "Unfortunately she was." The tweet has since disappeared and Elder commented that Fakih is "very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she is in right now."
So, here is my plan for Rima to get back on track.  First of all, get yourself clean and sober.  Second, call Dr. Drew Pinsky and book a stint on Celebrity Rehab for 2012.  Getting the gift of a "clean and serene" life is better than any crown you can wear on you head.

Shaun Lumachi dies in tragic car crash in Miami. Long Beach Post Publisher was a true breath of fresh air in the world around us! RIP

Shaun Lumachi: 1978-2011
Updated at 10:46 p.m.
Tributes are beginning to come in on the life of Shaun.  Will keep the community updated....
If you have a special memory of Shaun, please feel free to post them here on the bottom of this post.

By Randy Economy

I am beyond sad tonight.  I clicked on the web site of the Long Beach Post to learn that Shaun Lumachi, its Publisher, has died in a automobile accident in Miami.  Shaun was only 33 years old and his passing has stunned just about everyone in Long Beach.
Shaun was an inspiration to me in so many ways.  I loved the fact that he lived his "dream" day in and day out with the LB Post, and was a true gentleman in so many ways.  Tonight is the 49th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade and his web site is doing a "live stream" of the annual festive event, and it is a fitting tribute because he really was one of the "BRIGHTEST LIGHTS" in Long Beach.
We take a lot for granted in life.  Shaun was an inspiration.  Still trying to get my "arms" around this sad sad news.
My heart goes out to EVERYONE at LB POST and to the THOUSANDS of FRIENDS he leaves behind.  Please keep him in your PRAYERS this day....

Los Angeles County Supervisor has issued the following statement on Shaun's passing this evening:
I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of of the tragic death of Shaun Lumachi. Shaun was a great friend and loyal supporter.  He was a young man devoted to Long Beach, deeply involved in many local organizations.  He believed in the importance of active civil participation as evident by his hard work and commitment to the Long Beach Post and keeping the community informed and engaged.  Julie and I send our thoughts and prayers to his family at this very difficult time.

A tragic day ends in La Mirada.

I have been reporting all day long on for Los Cerritos Community News.... We now have a "tragedy" to report on a normally quiet tree lined street in beautiful La Mirada.  These situations are never easy to cover, and today was no exception.  I am still waiting for the name of the man who apparently took his own life. Also drove me nuts that the LA Times, and even the LA County Sheriff's Department Media Department reported hat his actually took place in Norwalk.  It took place in La Mirada. BIG difference. Shame on media "big boys" in LA for NOT reporting this situation all day long. Brian Hews, my Publisher at LCCN talk daily about the "lack of coverage" from television news outlets in Southern California in the 562 area code.  Wake up, news dudes....time for some accountability and a "plan...."

The day long drama of a barricaded suspect who held members of the Norwalk Sheriff's Department at bay for nearly nine hours on Aleciras Drive in La Mirada has come to a tragic end with the death of the gun toting man from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Los Cerritos Community News is in the process of confirming the identity of the man who was eventually found lifeless inside his garage located at 15966 Aleciras Drive at around 4:50 p.m. by law enforcement officials. The ordeal began at around 7:23 am Friday morning when Norwalk Sheriff’s Station deputies received a call about "shots fired" at the location.
Janet Winfrey, a neighbor in the immediate area told Los Cerritos Community News early Friday morning that she had heard "several gun shots" and then "everyone just shut their doors and stayed inside."

Occupy LA Arrives, Departs Norwalk Within Hours

Today was the BUSIEST FRIDAY I have EVER had since going to work as a Reporter for Los Cerritos Community News here in Cerritos almost nine months ago. It was literally one breaking news story after another for the past 24 hours. Anyway, I got a call this afternoon from a Norwalk elected official who told me, "Randy, they are Occupying Norwalk!" WTH? I don't have TIME to cover OCCUPY ANYTHING right now, but being the dutiful news dude here in the 562, I picked up my phone at Los Cerritos Community News and talked to Norwalk City Manager Mike Egan who provided me with all the "details" about the "temporary" occupation of the 90650. Anyway, off to celebrate (finally) the holidays tonight at a wonder local service club fundraiser. Peace. Randy.
Visit Los Cerritos Community News at www.loscerritosnews.net for more details. Remember about that awe, 99%!  Now can we NOT have anything "BREAKING" here in SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES COUNTY for the NEXT TWO HOURS?

Members of Occupy LA came to Norwalk City Hall this afternoon and held an impromptu news conference to talk about the state of home foreclosures here in Los Angeles County.
Norwalk City Manager Mike Egan, told Los Cerritos Community News this afternoon "several dozen peaceful protestors" gathered at the entrance of Norwalk City Hall, located at 12700 Norwalk Boulevard.
More than 7,000 foreclosed properties are on the auction block at Norwalk Superior Court. They targeted Bank of America at today's event.
Egan said the group quickly disbanded.
No arrests were made, and the crowd did chant some of their now "trademarked" slogans throughout the brief protest.
