Auld Lang Syne: The words to the "Song of the Year!

Tonight we celebrate New Years Eve all around the world.  I will be with family and friends and am looking forward to 2012.  I loved 2011.  It was full of highs, a couple of bumps in the road, but by and large, it was everything I could have asked for and much, much more.  We will sing Auld Lang Syne tonight at Midnight.  The best RENDITION of this classic standard is by the ViVA Girls.  Love these gals, want to party with them when they come to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

Happy New Year.  Here are the words to "Auld Lang Syne"

and never thought upon;
The flames of Love extinguished,
and fully past and gone:
Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold,
that loving Breast of thine;
That thou canst never once reflect
on Old long syne.
CHORUS:
On Old long syne my Jo,
in Old long syne,
That thou canst never once reflect,
on Old long syne.
My Heart is ravisht with delight,
when thee I think upon;
All Grief and Sorrow takes the flight,
and speedily is gone;
The bright resemblance of thy Face,
so fills this, Heart of mine;
That Force nor Fate can me displease,
for Old long syne.
CHORUS
Since thoughts of thee doth banish grief,
when from thee I am gone;
will not thy presence yield relief,
to this sad Heart of mine:
Why doth thy presence me defeat,
with excellence divine?
Especially when I reflect
on Old long syne

Remembering Ricky Nelson 25 Years After His Tragic Death: LCCN Exclusive Interview With Matthew Nelson

Back Story: I got a call a few months ago from the agent of Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, asking me if I would be interested in having an "open" and "candid" interview about the life, death, and legacy of the iconic American talent Ricky Nelson, through the eyes of their sons. I have interviewed thousands of "people in the news" over my life time, Presidents, Senators, Rock Stars, and even a Nobel Prize winner. But, this conversation with Matthew Nelson for Los Cerritos Community News was raw, emotional, uplifting, and awe inspiring. You can read the ENTIRE interview on line here. We all remember where we were when we heard the news in 1986 about the death of Rick Nelson on New Years Eve. 1986 also stands still in time with Matt and Gunnar. Please take a moment to read this interview, and please feel free to respond on my comment section below.

Twenty five years ago on New Year’s Eve, 1986 the lives of Matthew and Gunnar Nelson changed forever.
Then 18 years of age, the identical twin boys lost their father, legendary singer and actor Rick Nelson, and in a plane crash in Texas.  The news shocked the world, and for them it was the moment that “stood still in time.”
In a revealing interview with Los Cerritos Community News, Matthew Nelson opened up about the night of his father’s death, and how if changed him and his brother “forever.”
“I was in my car in front of my friend Duffy’s house, I had heard a couple of songs on the car radio he was singing, and it was interesting, I never put it together that they played three songs in a row, and it was actually on K-LOS, the local rock station, and Jim Ladd came on the air,” Matthew told Los Cerritos Community News.
“I had just commented to my friend in the car how amazing and clear my dad’s voice was on his song Garden Party, and then Ladd came back, and he sounded really sad ‘this has been a tribute to Rick Nelson and his whole band who were lost today in a plane crash in DeKalb, Texas,” he said with is voice sinking.
“It had felt like someone had shot me, and I evidently got out of the car, made it around five feet and passed out,” he said.  “I was supposed to be on the plane with him and so was Gunnar and at the very last minute my dad asked us if we wanted to meet him to fly commercial to Dallas where he was on his way on a DC-3 that went down.   I genuinely feel that he had a second sighted moment about Gunnar and me travelling with him,” Matt said.
“The only ones to make it out alive in the crash were the pilot and co-pilot, and they made it out the front windows,” he said.  “It has been all these years and it still feels like he is on the road, it is still too horrible for me to get into, so I talk about it (the crash) like it was a football game, I have to. We are all going to go sometime, I just don’t want to put myself in a risky position if I don’t have to,” he said.
At the time of his legendary father’s death, he and Gunnar were 18 years old, and Matthew said his father had just gone through a “world record divorce” and had “his entire family was back living with him” and life was going great.
“My dad was making incredible music at the time of his death,” Matthew stressed. “The age of 45 is far too young to die.”

 “It is going to be an interesting show.  This is something we want to do, not have to do.  Our dad was our best friend, so we said if we are going to do this right (a tribute concert). We are playing his songs the way he did them,” said Nelson.  “This concert in Cerritos is going to be the soundtrack of our life as well this being part of our legacy.”
He said that fans can expect to see a “video scrapbook” from the day “Gunnar and I were born.”
“My dad was arguable one of the most documented rock stars in history, so we really tip our hat to him in this concert and share great stories.  You will not only see the type of entertainer he was, but what kind of man he really was, and where our family is headed in the future,” Nelson said.
“By the time you leave the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, you will really understand the pure magic of Ricky Nelson, the legacy he left all of us and how we connect our fans directly to our family in a very personal way,” he said.
“The world is so not Ozzie and Harriet anymore,” referring to his late iconic grandparents.
“Gunnar and I grew up in a different time, and I think our family has always done something relative and relevant from where the show starts in the 1930’s, to my dad’s music in the 50’s to the 80’s,” he said.  During the performance they stress a special motto of their late father, “Believe in what you’re doing, and be proud of it.”
The concert on Sunday, January 15th at the CCPA is being billed as “Second Generation Stars” and will also feature Deana Martin, the singer-actress daughter of Dean Martin, and Steve March Torme, the son of the iconic Mel Torme.  Former Miss America and television personality Mary Ann Mobley emcees the afternoon.

ZEV TO HOLLYWOOD ARSONISTS: "WE WILL CATCH THESE SOB'S"

Zev Yaroslavsky

Totally adoring our one and only Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. Just listened to a Press Conference about the rash of arson fires that have engulfed a two square mile area in We Ho and Hollywood during the past 48 hours. Zev is a walking "sound bite." Reporters LOVE ZEV. Today he did not DISAPPOINT us professional note takers and news dudes.

 "We're going to catch these SOB's."

 Nice.

Son's of unwed single mothers are now under attack by the wanna be Mayor of LA La Land. Oh, my. Wonder what old Gloria Allred things about his "choice of words." Anyway. Here is the official scoop from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Fire Czars. Time to catch these "arsonists."

From the LASD, and LACFD:
 West Hollywood Sheriff's Station deputies and Los Angeles County firefighters received a call at 12:23AM, Friday, reporting a fire in the 7700 block of Romaine in the City of West Hollywood.  This led to deputies and firefighters working together to respond to a succession of similar fire incidents, with the last one occuring in West Hollywood at 2:09AM.  Los Angeles County Sheriff's Arson/Explosive Detail detectives responded and determined the five separate fires were acts of arson. 1200 block of Curson Ave. at 12:34AM
1200 block of Harper Ave. at 2:09AM (two fires)
For safety reasons, about 50 people were temporarily evacuated from an apartment building on Harper Ave. Residents were able to re-occupy their homes soon thereafter.  Detectives and firefighters discovered that all the fires started as vehicle fires in apartment car ports. No one was injured.
"The total damage is estimated to be $350,000.00," said Battalion Chief Jon O'Brien, Los Angeles County Fire Department. "Ten vehicles with a total value of about $185,000.00 were damaged or destroyed. Four structures suffered about $150,000.00 in damage as well as another $15,000.00 in damage to personal property."
Meanwhile in Hollywood (City of Los Angeles), many similar arson fires occurred during roughly the same period of time.  "The City of West Hollywood arson fires are definitely related to the LA City fires," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Arson/Explosives Detail Detective Ed Nordskog.
"We are very fortunate that these outrageous crimes didn't result in injuries or death," said Captain Kelley Fraser, West Hollywood Sheriff's Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "We are asking for the public's help in the search for the arsonist(s). If you saw or see anyone or anything suspicious, please report it immediately."
"As a result of these arson fires, in addition to an increased awareness in West Hollywood, there is also an increased deployment of deputies," said Captain Fraser. "We are asking for the public to maintain a high level of awareness and help us catch these arsonist(s)."
"Arsonists often like to watch fires they set," said Sheriff's Detective Nordskog. "Please contact us if you noticed anything suspicious. Someone likely saw something they may not think was important, but all clues are good clues right now."
Anyone with information about these incidents is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Arson/Explosives Detail at (323) 881-7500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the websitehttp://lacrimestoppers.org
"It is always a good idea to clear out potentially flammable debris from your carports and ensure you have functional smoke alarms in your homes," said Fire Battalion Chief O'Brien
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and Los Angeles County firefighters are working closely with Los Angeles City Fire and Police authorities to investigative these crimes and to apprehend those responsible.

Occupytheroseparade.org: Colorado Boulevard becomes new "Ground Zero" for occupy movement. What do you think?

By Randy Economy
The Countdown to 2012 has begun here in Sunny Southern California.
The Occupy Movement is headed to Colorado Boulevard to screw up the Tournament of Roses Parade. Organizers are calling it "Occupy The Rose Parade."  They have a new website, www.occupytheroseparade.org.   Yep, they are plotting openly to totally disrupt the "Granddaddy of all Parades" with their own "floats," signs, marchers and on and on.  Not sure who the "Occupy The Rose Queen" is going to be.  I am sure they are holding some sort of preliminary "swim suit" competition over in Vernon on Friday. They are going to have "floats," and "signs" and they have a leader named "Pete" who already as a You Tube Video.  Yep.  They also have suggestions on what to say on protest banners.  So, is this a good idea?  How will the average American react to the Occupy the Rose Parader's? Hit my comment section below.  Wonder what the University of Oregon and Wisconsin Football teams think about this?  Waiting to see if  Rose Parade Grand Marshall JR Martinez will take matters into his own hand?

From the Occupy the Rose Parade Website....:

Update: Ruben Ray Jurado does the right thing and turns himself into authorities

Just wanted to update my readers that Ruben Ray Jurado is now behind bars.

He turned himself into law enforcement officials in relation to the shooting of Army veteran Christopher Sullivan in San Bernardino County.  He did the right thing.

The legal system will now deal with Jurado over the next several days and well into next year.
Let's all keep Chris Sullivan in our Prayers and that his recovery from the three gun shots he received   We also need to have a national conversation about how our servicemen and women are "adapting" to life after a decade of endless war tours to Iraq and the Middle East.  In the meantime....be safe this upcoming New Years Holiday....

You may not know the name Chris Sullivan, but he is an American Hero who is fighting for his life and future in a San Bernardino County hospital this Christmas night.
The 22 year old decorated Army veteran returned to his crib in San Bernardino on Thursday to a heroes welcome.  Less than 18 hours later, Sullivan was shot and at a "homecoming party" at his home that may have left him paralyzed for the rest of his entire life...
He was shot three times.  The suspect fled.  He got away, and a manhunt has begun to track him down.  I spent Christmas Eve with a respected Member of Congress here in Southern California, and we talked about this horrific situation.  I am not going to name the Congress Member I was with, but it has shaken them to their inner core.
I hope all of us can stop and reflect on the violence in our community and what we can do in 2012 to put an end to it once and for all.  I am going to continue to report about shooting deaths here in our community.  We need to bring awareness to the dangers of the situation, and all of us, including Members of Congress have to come up with a plan to stop the killings on our streets once and for all.
Praying for Chris....Praying for his family...Praying for America...
