HAWAIIAN GARDENS COUNCILMAN BARRY BRUCE'S TIRADE SLAMS RESIDENT

BARRY BRUCE:  Way Out of Control

Hawaiian Gardens Councilman Barry Bruce lashed out his critics this week during a city council meeting by stating that “it really hurts when we have been helping people in the community for 30 years” and to see “so many people now are turning their backs on him” and his church known as the Way Out Ministries.
Bruce, who is a Pastor at WOM went on to blast longtime Hawaiian Gardens resident Nidia Matos by calling her a “liar” and “not worthy” during a lengthy and sometimes rambling response to community members at Tuesday’s Hawaiian Gardens City Council Meeting.
Bruce has been critical of several longtime residents and community leaders during the past two years since he won election to the city council.  He has been filmed by Los Cerritos Community News calling residents “fat,” “stupid,” “dumb,” “drunks,” and has even called some residents “deaf and blind.”
On Tuesday, Bruce claimed that his Way Out Ministries has a formal “partnership” with Cerritos College that helps funds scholarship for “smart kids” from Turner High School in order for them to get a college education.
Tom Jackson, the current President of the Cerritos College Board of Trustees is also the longtime Chair of the Advisory Board for Way Out Ministries.  When asked by Los Cerritos Community News on Thursday to explain WOM formal association, Jackson said that “there is none.”
LCCN has obtained documents from Cerritos College that shows that between September 18, 2008 and June 30, 2009, Way Out Ministries did provide for a “Facility Use Agreement” that sub leased space at Way Out for the use of a classroom to conduct a course in child development. The agreement for the facility use fee was waived by both parties, according to Cerritos College document.
In a review of past scholarship recipients, LCCN has learned Jackson served on both boards at the time, but claims that no conflict of interest was broached.

Hawaiian Gardens MAYOR MIKE GOMEZ:

"I'M THROUGH! MEETING ADJOURNED!"

It was one of the most emotionally charged meetings in recent memory and tonight taxpayers and residents in Hawaiian Gardens are scratching their collected heads after Mayor Mike Gomez abruptly adjourned Tuesday's city council meeting before any official business was conducted.

An argument erupted between Gomez, and combative city council members Barry Bruce, and Reynaldo "Rey" Rodriguez at the tail end of the oral communications portion of the meeting when emotions reached a boiling point between city council members.

Gomez, literally walked out of the meeting with Vice Mayor Michi Canada and Councilman Victor Farfan in toe after ruling the meeting "adjourned" before any of the city's business agenda could be done.

Los Cerritos Community News was the only media outlet at the meeting, and LCCN Editor Jerry Bernstein will have a complete update at www.loscerritosnews.net on Wednesday.   Even former HG Gardens Mayor Kathy Navejas got into the fray.  Yep.  The sideshow continues on Carson Street.  MORE TO FOLLOW.   CHECK BACK AND TUNE INTO LOS CERRITOS COMMUNITY NEWS!
