Nashville, TN
Clint Black is busy this summer writing, performing, and spending as much time as he can beating the heat of Nashville by splashing around in his pool with his 10 year old daughter Lily and wife actress Lisa Hartman-Black by his side.
“I have been with my nose to the grindstone writing, developing some new projects, and doing the dad thing,” Black told the Los Cerritos Community News on Tuesday.
“Lily (his only child) is 10 years old now and doing great, working on some new water tricks this summer like, kick dad off the float,” Black snickered. “I am still trying to get the water out of his ears from being in the pool on 4th of July.”
The multi-Grammy Award winning recipient will one of two headlining acts to kicking off the 2011-12 season of the famed Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts next weekend July 16, and 17. Black will hit the stage at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 17th.

Appearing one day earlier before Black, and kicking off the new CCPA season will be “Dick Fox’s Golden Boys,” featuring three of the most popular teen idols of the late ’50s and early ’60s including Frankie Avalon, Fabian Forte, and Bobby Rydell.

Black, who will be turning 50 next year, says that much has changed in the music industry over the past two and a half decades from when he first came onto the scene, and some of it has “not been good” for artists like him.

“We have had great advances with that have made the business both good and bad. Music wise we have seen the natural evolution of styles that we have always seen, but the technology has really hurt the record companies to the point where it is harder and harder for them to make a profit, which really hurts the artist,” Black said.

He said that artists usually make their money being on the road at concerts and performing at live shows. “But when you do an album or record it usually takes years before you can see a profit, then when you bring in the piracy issues it can’t really hurt an performer or band in the long run.”

“The issue of piracy is huge in our business,” Black said. He told the LCCN that the best way his fans can show their support is to buy cd’s, dvd’s and disks in nationally established retail stores such as Target, Costco, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy, and more importantly “see it in person.”

“When I started getting successful in the 1980’s the internet was just getting started,” Black said, and he said that the future will continue to be new challenges for the next generation of musicians, bands and solo acts. “The recording industry is in terrible, terrible shape and I think it has a huge impact on music culture,” Black said.

He also acknowledged that after working with and for music companies in the past, his effort to venture out under his own label did have initial success with the signing of “Little Big Town,” who has since left him to work with music giant EMI. Black said that even EMI is struggling in these hard economic times. “We couldn’t have picked a worst time to open a record label he said.
Black will be on tour during the next several months, and he can’t wait to get to Cerritos.

Talk about a dust bowl.  Tonight the area of Phoenix, Arizona was literally swept underneath a 600 foot high dust cloud, after dust cloud, and on and one.  You Tube is going crazy right now with lots of "downloaded" raw clips of the big blow that took place a sunset on Tuesday.

I have been in ONE DUST-SAND STORM, and it is a trip. Okay it is a "meteorological phenomenon" common in arid and semi-arid regions, like the desert.

Cerritos, USA

America has a new "anthem" for this Independence Day that just "officially" ended minutes ago here on the "left" coast of the US of A! Katy Perry and her "Firework" has exploded as the "hot" musical tune in just about every fireworks show in every community in America for 2011. Sure, we still have "God Bless America" and "God Bless the USA" but my hot new patriotic song of the moment belongs to Ms. Perry.

I watched fireworks in Cerritos and Norwalk, California over the past two days, and let me tell you, it was "FIREWORKS" and "FIREWORK" going hand in hand in both of these neighboring communities here in Southeast Los Angeles County.

Question: Did you have a "Firework" by Katy Perry blasting during your hometown fireworks show on Monday?

Hit my comment section below, and tell me where you live, where you watched your fireworks show, and if "Firework" was played?

"Firework" on You Tube currently has over 201,000,000 hits.  Not bad, girl!

Norwalk, CA
The body of former Norwalk High School student and recent UCLA graduate Scott Neacato has been found today, according to his longtime friend Varun Shahi.  Still getting the details, but I did want to pass this sad news along to my readers.

I am still waiting for official confirmation for the Coroner's Office in Tulare County.  I have a call into them right now, as of 10:49 p.m.

Many people have been involved in the attempt to find Scott, ever since went missing three weeks ago.

Also swept away in the incident was Minh Tu Nquyen, 24 from nearby Westminster.  The pair was last seen in the river near Ant Canyon around 6:30 p.m. last Monday, June 13.  The popular camping site is located about 10 miles north of Kernville, in Tulare County, it is a very popular location for college and university students to visit during spring and summer breaks. Nguyen's body was recovered around 10 days ago around.

Varun told me tonight in an email that: "It's tough Randy, though we had all accepted the truth 2 weeks ago there was still that small chance of hope.. but this is good for all his family and friends, at least they can get the closure they all deserve."

Above are two interviews I conducted with Varun and some his and Scott's lifelong BEST FRIENDS, at the Los Cerritos Communtiy News Room two weeks ago.  They knew Scott better than anyone and tonight they are all remembering him...

More details forthcoming....

Los Cerritos Community News EXCLUSIVE: Famed “Off-Street Café” in Cerritos faces “Restaurant Impossible” show down and make over by Food Network Chef Robert Irvine

LCCN Reporter

The “Off Street Café” located on Artesia Boulevard near the 91 and 605 Freeway interchange is considered by locals to be a “culinary” institution.  The popular dining establishment has been in business for more than a generation and has a cadre of devoted diners.
But all that is about to change, and “Off Street” is about to get raked over the coals by one of America’s toughest food critics in Chef Robert Irvine. Food Network’s wildly popular “Restaurant Impossible” is taking on “Off Street” and, well, let the chips fall where they may this eatery is about to get a “make over.”
For patrons of “Off Street,” not much has changed at the “throwback eatery” since it first opened nearly 25 years ago.
It has a 1980’s country “motif” on the inside, and the same patio service and furniture, umbrellas, heat lamps, news racks, and such for as long as anyone can remember.
Off Street patrons have gobbled up everything from 16 ounce pan fried steak sandwiches, Belgian waffles with blueberry topping, unique pasta dishes, spicy buffalo chicken wraps, homemade orange muffins, slabs of bacon, eggs and five varieties of potatoes – grilled, hashed, baked, fried and “those potatoes” with onions and green bell pepper.
All of that is about to change, and a worldwide television audience is about to get a real “taste of Cerritos.”
World famous Chef Irvine along with a cadre of Food Network TV’s show personnel will be converging on “Off Street” on July 6 and 7 and will be “made over” from top to bottom, with budget of $10,000.
Off Street will reemerge to the public after a 36 hour closure, and Irvine and show producers say the local establishment will “never be the same again.”
Robin Vandenberg and Rose Viscio have owned and operated Off Street for the past nine years and they are “thrilled beyond” words about this “once in a life time dream come true.”
Vandenberg, a native of Michigan has been a fan of the program since it began airing. “I thought, we can’t we be on this program, we are a perfect match.”  Vandenberg and Viscio quickly wrote to the show’s producers and within days received a call back.  Within a couple of weeks the restaurant gave them “the call” that they were informed that Off Street was selected.
“We started to cry, then we realized that our lives were about to change,” exclaimed Vandenberg.
“Off Street Café has been through ups and downs ever since we opened. Just knowing that Chef Robert Irvine and Restaurant Impossible is coming here to help us is remarkable,” she said.
In his new prime-time Food Network series, Restaurant: Impossible, Robert uses creativity and resourcefulness along with a lot of muscle in his fight to rescue these restaurants and give hope to the owners and their employees. Day one of the extreme mission begins with a thorough business assessment as Robert launches the restaurant into full service, closely observes the staff and kitchen, and determines their weakest spots. Then, he springs into action by updating the menu, retraining the staff and implementing aesthetic changes with the help of his design team.
“We don’t expect to get much sleep, and I am sure that our nerves are going to be frayed by the time we reopen for dinner on Friday,” Vandenberg said.

The staff at Off Street will be put under a ruthless schedule during the day and a half “make over,” but the community is urged to make their reservations for the grand re-opening at the end of day two, Friday, July 8, to experience the “new and improved” Off Street Café.

Please call (562) 402-9665 for reservations.
