Just hours after it became public knowledge that longtime Rep. Jane Harman is quitting Congress, longtime iconic political figure Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn has announced her plans to run in the forthcoming special election that still needs to be called.

Janice just sent out this email to supporters literally just minutes ago:

"Randy:

This morning I received a call from Congresswoman Jane Harman letting me know that she will be stepping down from her seat in Congress to serve as President and CEO at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The Congresswoman has been a strong voice for improving our nation's security and has worked hard for the people of the 36th District.

This is a district I know well. The two main economic engines on either side of the district -- the port and the airport -- have been two of my biggest focuses on the city council, as I have worked hard to create jobs and economic opportunity for everyone.

That's why I want you to be the first to know -- today, I'm announcing I will be running in the special election for Congress in the 36th District.

I'm running to create new jobs, expand clean energy technologies and ensure that local small business owners get the help and opportunities they need to flourish in a global economy. As someone who has served in local government for almost a decade, I want to bring that perspective and experience to Congress. ADAM QUINTANA: Los Angeles Man Pleads to Sledgehammer Murder of Fernando Garcia age 20

Image via WikipediaLOS ANGELES – A 21-year-old man charged with the bludgeoning death of a friend pleaded no contest today to first-degree murder.  Deputy District Attorney Hubert Yun said Adam Quintana also admitted an allegation that the murder was done willfully, deliberately and with premeditation. The defendant also admitted an allegation that he personally used a sledgehammer during the commission of the murder. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Rose said Quintana will be sentenced on March 1. The defendant faces a sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. Quintana pleaded “open” to the court, meaning the plea was not part of a negotiated settlement with the District Attorney’s Office. Jury selection was slated to begin in the case this morning, the prosecutor said. The defendant killed victim Fernando Garcia, 20, with a sledgehammer on Nov. 17, 2008. The victim, who was bound at the wrists with the power cord of a video game console, sustained multiple blows to the head, the prosecutor said, adding that the motive for the murder remains unclear. Officers of the Los Angeles Police Department were alerted to the location of the crime and, subsequently, the defendant was linked to the murder when DNA analysis confirmed that the victim’s blood was on his shoes.

Okay.  It is a very hard song to remember.  The National Anthem for the United States of America has turned former Mickey Mouse Club member Christina Aguilera into a "National Joke" one day after her Super Bowl Blow in front of a billion people all over the globe.

Not to worry, kiddo.  Your rendition of our American "song of songs" has  earned you my "Political Pirate of the Week Award!"  Congratulations. 

The way over bleached blond Aguilera botched the national anthem yesterday, by Biblical proportions.

Instead of singing "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," she sang "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming."  Huh?  She reminded me of the former Miss Teen South Carolina.  Whatever....

In a statement announcing her singing assignment on January 24th, Aguilera said, "I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true." 

Girl, it has turned out to be your biggest nightmare.

Are six members of the now world famous "Bell 8" about to be given plea agreements in exchange for testifying against ex-fatso-city manager Robert Rizzo and his right hand assistant Angela Spaccia?

Yep.  It's true. 

Six of the "Bell 8" have apparently been offered two-year prison sentences in exchange for pleading guilty, repay all the money they ripped off from taxpayers and the Bell cash box, for turning evidence against Rizzo and Spaccia at the upcoming criminal trial.

Offered the deal were:

• Mayor Oscar Hernandez 
• Councilwoman  Teresa Jacobo
• Councilman George Mirabal
• Ex-Mayor George Cole
• Ex-Councilman Victor Bello
• Resigned Councilman Luis Artiga

Give me a break. Let's not play "Let's Make a Deal" in this case, Mr. Cooley. Are you kidding me?  This is an outrage.  "Deals"are a bad deal for the people of Bell. A lousy message to every other corrupt city hall here in America, and to all the other "fat cat" millionaire city managers who have pulled us all off for decades.
 
Have the trail.  Let the chips fall where they may. Get a backbone and "man up."

Sad news. 

Another tragic accident on the 91 Freeway on Sunday has taken the lives of two Bellflower residents.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting that Ian Wulf, 44, and Mua Pasesa, 34, died at the scene of the crash on the eastbound 91 at the Cherry Avenue Avenue.

The tragic accident took place at around 3 a.m. Sunday.  No word on how the cause of the crash other than Wulf was driving a 2001 Honda Passport when he veered off into the right shoulder, overturning several times.  Both died at the scene.

So so sad.  Feel free to share your thoughts in my comment section.

Image via WikipediaLongtime Rep. Jane Harman, is throwing in the towel and quitting Congress.  Yep. Lady Jane is getting out of the House and going to take over as the Executive Director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Local media outlets are breaking the huge political news including the LA TIMES.

I knew that as soon as the Democrats lost control of the House of Representatives last November, some of the entrenched longtime members from the left side of the isle would be throwing in the towel since it is no fun being on the "minority side of the Congressional isle."

Yep.  You always want to be in the "Majority" in Congress.  Much better perks.  Better Committee chairmanships, better tables at fancy restaurants, better access to campaign cash. You know, all that cool "extra stuff."

I had to look up what the Woodrow Wilson International Center is all about.

It is to "commemorate the ideals and concerns of Woodrow Wilson" by providing a link between the world of ideas and the world of policy; and fostering research, study, discussion, and collaboration among a full spectrum of individuals concerned with policy and scholarship in national and world affairs.

Great.  Another Washington Think Tank, there must be a thousand of these 501 Non Profits in DC.

So, look for a Special Election, probably in early Summer.  Harman faced a  nasty election during the 2010 election including a heated primary battle from within her own Party.

Activist Marcy Winograd the President of Progressive Democrats of Los Angelesive Democrats of America. Winograd garnered almost 38% of the vote when she challenged Harman last June.  Harman went on to easily defeated upstart Republican Mattie Fein in November.  Remember this classic You Tube spot from consultant John Thomas that went viral within hours, causing a national debate about the "power of politics of You Tube?"

So, get ready for the "Special Election" shuffle in the South Bay and West Side of LA in 2011 and into 2012 because of Harman's selfish resignation.

How many millions of dollars is this STUNT by HARMAN going to cost us taxpayers?

Lady Jane, you  hould have done the right thing and just stayed in Congress till the 2012 election.

Ah, the arrogance of Power.  Gotta love it.

Time for Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar and his ENTIRE taxpayer paid staff at Los Angeles City Hall to RESIGN ... immediately.

Huizar political "braintrust" Michael Trujillo is out of a job, and in my opinion a criminal investigation needs to be opened by the LAPD asap.



Trujillo sent the below email to Huizar's staff on Friday.  These people listed are also Huizar's taxpayer paid staff that works day in and day out at Los Angeles City Hall.


Micheal Trujillo WAS the chief political operative for Huizar until Sunday night. He resigned, before he got ran out of town on a rail.

If this below email wasn't leaked to the media, Trujillo would still be calling the shots for the self absorbed Huizar.

Call them the next best hope for the future of Cerritos. I call them candidates looking for votes. Lots of "early" votes. So far the seven candidates running for the Cerritos City Council have met twice in public community forums. They have both been televised here locally on Cerritos TV 3.

I am very impressed with all the candidates.

Since when did Whitney High School get a football team.  LOL.

They are diverse. Well known, with the exception of two "newbies." Their positions are clear. Experience versus New Bold Ideas. The issues of executive pay compensation appears to be the "hot" issue of this campaign due to the recent revelations in cities within the Southeast Los Angeles County corridor.

I am going to hold off on who I am supporting for the next couple of weeks. Even though, anyone is welcomed to drive past my casa here on the Eastside of Cerritos to see for yourself by checking out the three yard signs on my front lawn.

Yep. It is campaign time here in Cerritos.

Early voting begins this week. You can stop by Cerritos City Hall and "vote early." You can also request you "Vote By Mail" ballot (use the official "Absentee Ballot Application in your Cerritos Municipal Sample Ballot that hit your mailbox this past week.).

Secondly. Do your homework. Study up on the candidates. What do they plan to do to fix the problems facing Cerritos in these dire economic times? Who has the courage and knowledge to make the dramatic fiscal cuts needed during this next four years with an "independent" mind, rather that following a recommendation from city staff.

Think about the future of Cerritos.

Cerritos has been my home since 1968. I have been active in EVERY city council campaign here since I have been eight years old. I am not afraid to challenge the status quo, or to praise successes from our local elected officials.

Yep. Been there. Help create that around here. So, see you on the campaign trail. BTW. If your walking the streets looking for votes over here on the Eastside of Cerritos, avoid the gopher holes.  Yep.  Who has the best plan to FINALLY eradicate our pesky rodents east of Carmentita Road?

Call them the "UCI 11." 

What the heck ever happened to "Freedom of Speech" in The OC?

This is amazing news.  Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackaukas is bringing misdemeanor  charges against eleven young University of Irvine and UC Riverside co-eds for disrupting a speech of a visiting Diplomat from Israel on a "taxpayer" owned and operated university.  

What is even more disturbing to me is that that the "alleged" crime took place one year ago.

Are you kidding me?  

Incredible but true. 

What ever happened to Freedom of Speech, or Freedom to Assemble?  What a massive waste of taxpayer resources.  Is this being held up as a "high profile" case because of the recent acts in Egypt?  How much money is it going to cost YOU and I to prosecute this case from one year ago?  How many hours of professional "legal" time has been dedicated to this so-called "crime."  Get a grip.

I hope the ACLU is paying attention.  You lost me on this one Tony.  What do you think?  Hit my comment section below.

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) has charged 11 defendants with conspiring to disrupt a meeting and speech by the Israeli Ambassador to the United States at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Each defendant is charged with one misdemeanor count of conspiracy to disturb a meeting and one misdemeanor count of the disturbance of a meeting. If convicted, they each face a sentence ranging from probation with community service of fines up to six months in jail. They are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges March 11, 2011, at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. The time and Department are to be determined. 

The defendants are: 

• Mohamed Mohy-Eldeen Abdelgany, 23
• Khalid Gahgat Akari, 19
• Aslam Abbasi Akhtar, 23
• Joseph Tamim Haider, 23
• Taher Mutaz Herzallah, 21
• Hakim Nasreddine Kebir, 20
• Shaheen Waleed Nassar, 21
• Mohammad Uns Qureashi, 19
• Ali Mohammad Sayeed, 23
• Osama Ahmen Shabaik, 22
• Asaad Mohamedidris Traina, 19.

The incident (described below) occurred Feb. 8, 2010, on the campus of UCI. Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren (Ambassador Oren) was the featured speaker at a meeting co-sponsored by multiple organizations including Anteaters for Israel, UCI’s School of Law, Department of Political Science, and Center for the Study of Democracy. Approximately 500 to 700 people had assembled for the meeting. Eight of the defendants were students at UCI and Akari, Herzallah, and Nassar were students at University of California, Riverside.

Time for ALL of US to think about enacting a tough LOCAL law that can help protect our children.

Child Safety has to be PRIORITY ONE when it comes to our elected leaders here in Whittier, Norwalk, and Santa Fe Spings.  

Today, another high profile "predator" case has exploded in the media.


The suspect under arrest is former Army Major John W. Davis.  Yep.  You heard it correct.  A former Military Major under President Clinton actually played "Santa Claus" at several school events at Los Altos Elementary School right up the street in the Unincorporated area of Whittier. Incredible news.  Makes me so angry.  Keep you posted with more details.  Also thanks to Darsha Phillips from Eyewitness News here in Los Angeles for this report that just hit Channel 7.  Below is the "official" statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.


Retired Army Major arrested for sex offender violation on school grounds

On Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 6:15 pm, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a retired Army Major for entering school grounds as a registered sex offender, a misdemeanor violation of 626.81 of the California State Penal Code.
 
Suspect John W. Davis, 56, of Whittier, volunteered to read to elementary school children at Los Altos Elementary School while wearing his Army uniform on November 10, 2010.  
Davis is a registered sex offender convicted out of San Diego County in 2000 for a felony violation of attempted lewd acts with a child under the age of 14.   School officials with the Los Altos Elementary School in unincorporated Whittier were unaware of Davis’ conviction, when he was allowed to read to the school children at a "heroes day" at the school to celebrate Veteran's Day.

Norwalk Station sheriff’s deputies became aware of the incident on January 28, 2011, while verifying the addresses of all sex offenders registered in the unincorporated Whittier area.  The deputies recognized Davis from the reading event at the school and initiated an investigation along with the Special Victims Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
 
Davis is listed in the California Megan’s Law website at www.meganslaw.ca.gov as a sex offender.  
Schools, churches, and any organizations dealing with children (or anyone concerned about personal safety) are urged to use this free website in an effort to determine if volunteers or other people are convicted sex offenders: www.meganslaw.ca.gov
