Los Angeles:

Los Angeles Police Department

West Los Angeles Area detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the arrest of a suspect whom they believe is responsible for a series of burglaries.

In an area of West Los Angeles near the border of the city of Santa Monica, numerous residents have been subjected to burglaries since early October of last year.

Most of the burglaries have targeted storage units in parking structures, although detectives believe the same suspect is also responsible for several grand thefts, stealing property from parked vehicles and various petty theft crimes.

At one of the more recent incidents, a suspect was seen entering an underground parking structure where his image was captured on camera by a security surveillance system.  The suspect appears to be a 25- to 30-year-old white or Hispanic male.  He has short, dark hair, weighs 160 to 190 pounds and stands between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall.

What a shame.  Technical difficulties? Yeah right.  Cerritos voters were left in the dark tonight just minutes before the start of the Artesia Cerritos Association of University Women Candidate Forum was to begin.

Yep.  Cerritos TV 3 went black.  Dark. Off the air. No debate. Just a black screen telling viewers to "Press the B Button To Troubleshoot).

So, the voters of Cerritos missed out on the HOTTEST and one of the WILDEST debates ever held in the history of this tony enclave of 50,000 residents.  I watched an awful looking "live" stream on the internet, and it was chopped up throughout most of the 90 minute forum.

What an outrage.  I hope their is a "logical" explanation for this "outage."

Can't wait to hear who pulled the plug.

Well. Well. Well.  The "mighty" have fallen.

Patrick Lynch, the head of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena up and quit today.

Outta' here. Good bye.  He is taking his marbles and going to go play elsewhere.

You see, in public life, you need to "follow the money..." if you REALLY want to find out how our government "works" and who "actually" is pulling the strings behind the scenes day in and day out.

This time around, a money trail lead to Todd DeStefano, Lynch'es ex-right hand and "events manager," who worked for a company that staged last June's drugged out "Electric Daisy Carnival" rave event.

PL: The door hit him on the way out!
As soon as it was brought out that DeStefano was working for both the Coliseum Commission and  for the Rave promoter the countdown to Lynches departure began.

The Coliseum is now built on a "House of Cards."  Well, it blew over this afternoon. Face it.  Whenever "Raves" become the biggest source of income for a public facility like the Coliseum or Sports Arena, something is wrong, and someone is getting paid off.

No wonder professional football, or soccer WON'T move to Los Angeles.

Time for USC to build it's own football stadium.

Game over for the Coliseum.  Knock it down, and knock it off.

The taxpayers have had it.  Enough is Enough!

FINALLY I caught our crane in action doing what he does best.  Eating the gophers that also appear this time of year.

WE  need to come up with a name for this magical bird.  He  (she) stands at least three and a half feet tall when fully erect, and one of the most amazing wing spans you could ever imagine.
Going for the gophers?  I think our Crane just scored a big one.

ALTADENA --

Tragedy has hit the campus of famed John Muir High School in Pasadena.

Beloved student athlete Brandon Jackson, 18,  has been slain in a senseless drive by shooting Saturday night.

Pasadena Police Department (California)Image via WikipediaHis murder has outraged many in Pasadena and the Muir High School campus is in a state of shock this week.

Many who knew the well mannered Jackson are asking for help and answers on why this violent crime took place, and who is responsible.

Jackson played football on the Muir High School Varsity team.

He was walking on the street at the 300 block of West Palm at around 9 p.m. this past Saturday night, when he was called over to an "unidentified" car. Then, a suspect or "suspects" inside that car took out a gun, and striking Jackson in the upper body.

Tonight justice for the young man is being sought. The Pasadena Police Department is looking for those responsible.  An aggressive investigation is now being conducted.

Brandon Jackson was a smart student. He was carrying a 3.0 GPA (that's a B Average) and he had lost his mother in 2009 who passed away after a short illness. He was literally just beginning to find himself as a young man.  Tonight, WE need to help find those responsible.

If you have any information, PLEASE, do the RIGHT thing. Call the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4545.

If you have a special memory or thought about Brandon, please feel free to leave a comment here on my blog below this post.  So sad.  Tonight, I pray for everyone who knew Brandon and his family.

LOS ANGELES

This following crime case in Los Angeles has got lots of people talking tonight.

Michael Inman, a hot shot "defense attorney" out of Beverly Hills pleaded no contest on Valentine's Day to one count of bringing drugs into a jail after he tried to smuggle heroin into a secure area of the downtown courthouse last year.

Priceless.

Mr. Inman will soon become "Inmate Inman."  Yep.  He is heading to jail for 120 days.  Bummer dude.

Deputy District Attorney Paul Nunez of the Justice System Integrity Division said Michael Inman entered the plea before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Abzug. Inman was immediately sentenced to 120 days in county jail, placed on three years formal probation and agreed to submit paperwork to the State Bar to be placed on inactive status.

If you recall, and I think I actually blogged about this dude last year, Inman was arrested in June 2010 after he entered a secure lock-up at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center to visit two defendants he was representing in a burglary and receiving stolen property case.

After Sheriff’s deputies discovered a baggie of heroin in a secure area where only Inman was waiting, he was arrested.  You think?  This has to be one of the dumbest Attorney's in 90210.

In exchange for today’s plea, three additional felony counts were dismissed, including possession of a controlled substance in a jail, possession for sale of a controlled substance and sale or transportation of a controlled substance.

For this crime plea, Inman earns my "Political Pirate of the Day Award."  Yep.  He beat out soon to be ex Los Angeles County Memorial Coliseum Commish Chair Patrick Lynch.  Not to worry.  Lynch will be a "landslide" winner of my coveted "Pirate" on Tuesday, after he gets fired.

You CANNOT keep a secret here in Los Angeles County forever.

TAN NGUYEN: Former OC Congressional Candidate Sentenced to Prison for Lying During Investigation Into Campaign Letters

No comments:
What's THE REaction:
SANTA ANA, CA—Tan Nguyen, who ran for the United States House of Representatives in 2006, was sentenced this morning to one year and one day in federal prison for his conviction last year on a federal obstruction of justice charge stemming from lies he told to California investigators about his involvement in a letter sent to Latino voters during the campaign.

Nguyen, a 35-year-old Oceanside resident, was sentenced by United States District Judge David O. Carter, who presided over two trials last year. In addition to the prison term, Judge Carter ordered Nguyen to serve six months at a residential reentry center, also known as a halfway house.

Prior to imposing a prison term, Judge Carter said, "The standard of ethics that the public expects of their officials is high."

A federal jury in December found Nguyen guilty of obstruction of justice for lying to the California Department of Justice, which was investigating numerous complaints from Latino voters in the 47th Congressional District in Orange County. The complaints came after approximately 14,000 voters in the district received a letter in Spanish that made certain claims about who was eligible to vote and what would happen to immigrant voters if they cast ballots. The mailer went out on letterhead that was similar to that of an anti-illegal immigration group, the California Coalition for Immigration Reform, which had nothing to do with the letter.

During an interview with CalDOJ investigators in October 2006, Nguyen falsely stated that campaign volunteers created the letter without his knowledge.

"Mr. Nguyen's conduct undermined the public's expectation of honesty from public officials and those who desire to serve," said United States Attorney André Birotte Jr.

Thomas E. Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, stated: "The Civil Rights Division is committed to protecting the voting rights of all individuals. We simply will not tolerate those who attempt to interfere with efforts to enforce civil rights laws in our nation."

The jury that convicted Nguyen on the obstruction of justice charge deadlocked 9-3 on a second obstruction of justice charge that alleged Nguyen attempted to blame a campaign worker for the letter. Nguyen was found guilty following his second trial; a jury in the first trial in August 2010 deadlocked on both counts. At the conclusion of today's sentencing hearing, federal prosecutors moved to dismissed the unresolved obstruction of justice charge.

Judge Carter ordered Nguyen to surrender to begin serving his sentence by March 28.
The investigation into Nguyen was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of California and the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department.

NBC Today Show just had an update on Serene and her "possible" issues that she is facing.  As a stroke survivor, I know EXACTLY what she must be going through this morning.  Hang in there Serene!  America is HERE for YOU, and so am I!

UPDATE:
All video of this awful situation has been removed from You Tube.

Los Angeles, CA

Today I am praying for Serene Branson, the beautiful well respected journalist from KCAL/KCBS News here in Los Angeles who suffered a "possible stroke" during a live broadcast following the Grammy's night.

I have never met Serene Branson, but today I am Praying that she is okay, and understand exactly she must be experiencing.

As many of my readers know, I suffered a major stroke in 2001. I was 41, and literally on top of the world.

It took me literally one year to recover. 2001 was the most horrific year of my life.

When I read about Serene Branson's "possible" stroke today via Facebook, I could immediately "relate" to the situation, and what fear she must be experiencing today.

A You Tube post shows Serene speech being "slurred" almost immediately and became incomprehensible. So so scary.  That post has sent been removed from the internet.

Today, on this Valentines Day, my heart belongs to Serene Branson. Be well. Take it one day at a time, and get the best doctor care possible!

xxoo!

They call themselves Arcade Fire.  Tonight the band no one has ever heard of out side of their tiny enclave of Montreal, Canada is the HOTTEST rock band in the world after taking home the 2011 Grammy for "Best Album" of the year award. The name of the group album that won is called "The Suburbs." I still haven't heard of "The Suburbs."   Apparently, the album is their third studio recording and they have seven-members led by the husband and wife team of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne.

Okay.  Gaga was a total mes, but she was Lady who looked like "a tramp" once again.

The BEST of the BEST of the night was "Lady Antebellum'" who won took home the top two award (Record and Song of the Year) for "Need You Now!"

I also loved the Best New Artist winner.

Yep.  America is about to fall in love with Esperanza Spalding.

Who?

Esperanza Spalding, she is 26, plays the bass guitar, is from Portland, Oregon and she was named "Best New Artist" over the kiddie-popper Justin Bieber and rapper Drake.

I did like Espy. She actually CAN sing.  Novel concept, ain't it.

Debbie Escobedo was a 1st grade teacher at Maggee Elementary in the city of Pico Rivera. All three family members lived in the same neighborhood for as long as anyone can remember.

Their house on Janine is located across from Murphy Ranch Elementary School and is nearby La Serna High School.  Both campuses were placed on lock-down and were evacuated.

My heart goes out to the Escobedo Family and to all of their loved ones. There are many unanswered questions about motive and cause.  I hope everyone who reads this post, can pause and say a Prayer for this entire family and for the community who loved them.

If you have a special memory or thought about the Escobedo Family,  please feel free to share it here in my comment section below.  More details later. I hope something positive can come out of this situation.

Tonight, is a time to reflect.

Could the "American bookstore" become a thing of the past?

In this age of IPads, Nooks and Kindles, it appears that Borders Books could be out of business...as early as Monday.  Yep, reports in the Wall Street Journal and other east coast financial rags are reporting that the end is near for the troubled book company that is controlled by Borders Group, Inc.

It is finishing up preparations for a bankruptcy filing and it could and probably happen this coming Monday morning when the New York Stock Exchange opens.

I love Borders.  We have a two story location here in our Cerritos Towne Center.  I just bought a couple of very challenging jigsaw puzzles with my mom over the recent holidays as well as some amazing tabletop cook books.

As a journalist and an author, I am saddened to see that our society is moving away from "brick and mortar book stores."  It would be a huge loss for our community here in Cerritos if Borders shuts down.

BTW:  I STILL haven't gotten into the  Nook or Amazon's Kindle craze, but I am contemplating a new Verizon IPhone this weekend.

Whittier, CA
The long police stand down on Janine Avenue in Whittier is over, and it ended very tragically.

Three people were found dead inside a the home at around 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the 16000 block of East Janine Drive.  The situation began at noon time when someone called about "shots" being fired inside the location.

After a long day that included the lock down of two campuses including La Serna High School and Murphy Ranch Elementary School, SWAT officers entered the home and unfortunately found three people have been shot and killed.

It is believed that the three victims were related.

Their names have not been "OFFICIALLY" released to the community.  As soon as the Los Angeles Coroners office or the Whittier Police Department or the Los Angeles County Fire Department issue their names, I will post them here on my blog.

I hope everyone who reads this post can keep these three victims in your thoughts and Prayers today.

This street and neighborhood will never be the same again.  I feel sad for the great people and kids who live in this one East Whittier community. This is a tight knit area.  Everyone knows everyone else.  We have great local elected school board members who represent the small East Whittier Unified School District.

This is just tragic and sad, and many lives will never be the same again.

Now we wait for answers and the long week ahead.

If you have any comments, PLEASE share them with the community here on my Blog below.

Whittier, CA

I have received a couple of emails this afternoon from readers in Whittier asking me to post some information about a murder of a woman on Janine Drive and the lock down of two popular schools.

Apparently, both La Serna High School and Murphy Ranch Elementary was "locked down" this afternoon after a dead woman was found in a house on Janine Drive.  The victim is believed to have been murdered via gunshot(s).

But, the area has been placed on "lock down" because it is believed that the shooting suspect may still be in the residence of the murder. Quick work by law enforcement and from school officials kept hundreds of students safe.
