Pasadena, CA
The countdown to the 122nd Rose Parade has begun.  Yep time for “Building Dreams, Friendships & Memories” that will head down the famed Colorado Boulevard to kick off 2011 with style, pomp, bands, horses, and those amazing floral floats.

I love this annual event.  I have participated every year for the past decade helping decorate and build the award winning float from the City of Cerritos.  But this year, due to the economic situation (and yes even politics) the City of Cerritos is not participating in this annual flower festival. Just like past years, I will be covering every part of this year’s Rose Parade.  Yep.  Your one stop shop.  All the parade participants, the bands, the behind the scenes news, and will also be posting who wins what award the morning of the big parade.

The 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade will take place on Saturday, January 1, 2011 beginning at 8:00 a.m. (PST).  Ultra cool kitchen gal Paula Deen will be serving as Grand Marshall.
There is a Visitor Hotline at  (877) 793-9911, and a Visitors' Info line, at (626) 449-ROSE; or you can contact the Tournament of Roses office at (626) 449-4100.

City of Cerritos will be a "no show" on Colorado Boulevard on 2011.
The 122nd Rose Parade will be broadcast on ABC, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, KTLA (Tribune), NBC, RFD-TV and Univision.  The best coverage is ALWAYS KTLA here in Southern California.  Yep.  Sorry guys but New Year’s morning would NOT be the same without Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards take on the annual festival on KTLA, Channel 5.

So, here is my guide to the 2011 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade.  Starting with the floral floats, followed by the Marching Bands and then the Equestrian Units.

COMMERCE, CA —
Popular Commerce City Councilman Hugo Argumedo is out of office tonight and lucky to not be spending the next couple of years in jail.

On Monday, Los Angeles County prosecutors say Argumedo pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and must resign his council seat immediately.
The District Attorney's Public Integrity's office say the 49-year-old Argumedo entered his plea Monday to the misdemeanor count. As part of the plea deal, a felony count of perjury was dismissed.
Argumedo also will be barred from holding public office for the next three years while on probation. The Associated Press reported on Monday night that Argumedo signed a false affidavit as part of a civil lawsuit with ex-city attorney Francisco Leal. The affidavit was filed by Leal in an attempt to defend allegations he failed to pay a settlement owed to the city in a contract dispute between the city and former city attorney.

Leal is the highly over paid paid city attorney of Huntington Park.  Records show that Leal was paid more than $700,000 in public funds by the City of Huntington Park City Council last year alone for legal services.  Huntington Park has less than 60,000 residents.

Argumedo moved to the City of Commerce in 1994 and was elected to the City Council in 1996 to fill the unexpired term of Ruben Batres. Argumedo was reelected to the City Council in 1997, 1999, and 2003.   In addition to his duties on the City Council, he serves as a member of the California Contract Cities Association, I-710 Oversight Policy Committee, Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District and as a representative with the Southern California Association of Governments.  As a member of the City Council, he has played an active role in the city and is committed to improving community safety, education and employment. He helped initiate the City's Education Commission, community-based policing program and city scholarship program.  While serving on the City Council, Hugo has also served as a member of many community-based organizations, including the Model City Democratic Club of Commerce, the Commerce Sister City Association, and the Rosewood Park Elementary School PTA.
He is also the half-brother of Montebello School ard Member Hector Chacon, and Central Basin Water Board Member Art Chacon.  Stay tuned.   Look for tons of political fall out from this case.  Who is next?  Hummmm.  The ring of corruption is GROWING....

ANAHEIM, CA –

The wheels of justice are beginning to turn against a  former Huntington Park police chief who is being charged for one count of misdemeanor indecent exposure.

Paul Lawrence Wadley, 56, of Anaheim pleaded not guilty in court Monday that he left lewd photographs and exposed himself to women on Anaheim Hills running trails on at least more than one occasion.  This case has gotten lots of buzz in the media.  One law enforcement official involved in this case even called Wadley an overly aggressive predator, who needs to be stopped.

The arraignment hearing took place on a rainy Monday over at the North Justice Center in Fullerton off of Harbor Boulevard.  His bail was set at $15,000 and he is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 15.  Keep you posted.

So, what do you think?  Is this case important?  Is this a waste of time?  Have you ever been the victim of a "crime" like this?  Sound off.  Hit my comment section.

ANGEL DUARTE CERNA: Ex-Buena Park car salesman given 25 years to life for murdering his wife Gabriella Herrera

SANTA ANA – It has been four long years since this horrific crime shook the Orange County  community of Anaheim.

Tonight their is Justice in the murder of Gabirella Herrera.

Angel Duarte Cerna, 39, of Santa Ana, is going to be spending at least the next 25 years of his life, if not his entire life for the suffocation and murder of his wife Gaby, in Anaheim before dumping her body on the side of a freeway in Los Angeles County.

Cerna was found guilty by a jury Dec. 14, 2010, of one felony count of murder.  On Monday he was formally sentenced for his crime.

If you recall, and if you don't remember, back in 2006, Cerna lived in Anaheim with his wife, Gabriella Herrera, and her two young sons from previous relationships.

In the early morning of Nov. 6, 2006, Cerna suffocated and murdered Herrera, then  drove her body from Anaheim to Los Angeles County and dumped her on the side of California State Route 60.

After dumping the victim’s body, Cerna went to work that morning at a car dealership in Buena Park.

Herrera’s two children discovered the victim missing when they awoke for school and she wasn’t home. Family members reported the victim missing to the Anaheim Police Department (APD) that day and Herrera’s children were sent to stay with their biological fathers.

On Nov. 8, 2006, two days after the murder, Cerna moved out of his Anaheim home without telling anyone. On Nov. 10, 2006, Herrera’s unidentified body was discovered by law enforcement after receiving an anonymous tip. That same day, Cerna quit his job and told co-workers that he planned to move out of the country.

Herrera remained unidentified for several weeks until Dec. 30, 2006, when the Los Angeles County Coroner identified the body using Department of Motor Vehicle fingerprint records. Following an investigation by Anaheim Police Department, Cerna was arrested July 19, 2007, for the murder.

At the sentencing today, five family members of Gabriella Herrera told the court , "while the defendant received justice under man’s law, he will also receive justice under God’s law."

Amen to that.  My heart goes out to the surviving members of this family.  They have had to carry a heavy Cross these past four years, and I cannot imagine the grief that they must still experience.

Are you kidding me?  What a game.  Beyond words.  Did you see DeSean Jackson and the Philadelphia Eagles comeback of the Century (Circa 21st AD) yesterday in the Meadowlands  in New Jersey

Eagle Quarterback Michael Vick led the greatest comeback of his up and down and in and out of the dog house career to one of the greatest December football comebacks in pro football history on Sunday.

The Eagles flew past the Giants thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter super comeback to beat their rival New York Giants to claim first place in the NFC East.

I can't think of any super trite sport terms to tell you what happened on the last play.

Just watch this ending.  They watch it again.

Would someone get Michael Vick a new puppy?

Well, lets not get crazy.  It's ONLY a game.  LOL.

What a snow job over the Pond.

Jolly ol' Heathrow Airport is totally miserable this Christmas holiday week.  The airport is literally stuck under a blanket of snow so bad, that thousands of "would be" travelers are going nowhere fast.

BAA Heathrow is only going to open with a "limited schedule" of arrivals and departures for Monday, and possible all week long. They are expecting hundreds of flight cancellations and delays this week due to horrible snow storms.

It is so bad in the UK this week that if you are currently at Heathrow, the odds are you are going to be stuck there since cabbies can't even get into the airport.

Airport officials in Heathrow, the hub of European travel ports, are providing minute by minute updates via their Twitter account.   Quick, grab your IPhone and Twitter Heathrow Airport here.

If you are IN LONDON, STUCK in the AIRPORT, send me your IPhone videos to economy4abc.blogspot.com@gmail.com.

Are North and South Korea on the verge of an all out war tonight?

According to CNN, South Korea's planned live-fire military exercises have started.  Also confirming the drills is AlJazeera English.

This is horrible news, that everyone in the world needs to take notice. In South Korea, approximately 8,000 residents have been ordered to take cover in Yeonpyeong, Baengnyeong, Daecheong, Socheong and Udo.  I have lots of amazing friends from Korea who live here in Cerritos, CA.   Our Mayor Joseph Cho is one of two American Mayors from South Korea.  Tonight, the world needs to take heed of this news.  Pray for Peace.

Long Beach, CA

For the second time in less than a week, a man has been shot and killed by a Long Beach Police Officer.

Last week, the Belmont Shore community was in shock over the shooting death of Doug Zerby by a number of Long Beach Police Officers. (See my past posts below on the Zerby "incident.")  That officer involved shooting made headlines all over the globe.

Now we have a second officer involved shooting death in Long Beach, this time over on Pine Avenue earlier Sunday morning.

Here is the "official" word from the Long Beach Police Department:

"On Sunday, December 19, 2010, at approximately 5:00 a.m"., Long Beach Police Officers were flagged down by a female in the area of the 2100 block of Pine Avenue regarding a sexual assault that involved a minor, with the suspect being a family member.  After conducting interviews officers determined a crime occurred, they went to the location in the 2100 block of Pine Avenue to contact the suspect.  As officers contacted the suspect inside a residence, the suspect produced a handgun and an officer involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was taken into custody and life saving measures were rendered, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics.  The suspect is being identified only as a 41-year-old male and a Long Beach resident, until the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirms his identity. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.  No officers were injured.

The minor victim was transported to a local hospital and treated.  The investigation is ongoing as Homicide Detectives are investigating along with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as they do in all Officer Involved Shootings

Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to call Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives David Rios or Roger Zottneck at (562) 570-7244.

Stay tuned.  Do you live in Long Beach?  What is your opinion or take on this latest officer involved shooting death? Do you feel safe in Long Beach anymore?

Hit my comment section.  As soon as the name of the victim is released from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, I will be updating my readers and the community.
