Hats off to the Riverside Press Enterprise for the "breaking details" that an arrest has been made in the brutal murder of Riverside Police Officer Ryan Bonaminio in a Target Department Store parking lot.

Raw video footage of the arrest has just been placed on the Press Enterprise website, and I wanted to upload here for my readers.

According to the PE.com:

Riverside police have detained a possible suspect in the slaying of Officer Ryan P. Bonaminio, who died in a struggle with a hit-run suspect.
The Riverside Police Department is in the process of updating the media. Check back for more details, including the name of the man who was just arrested.

Republican Andy Vidak takes a huge lead over Rep. Jim Costa in California Congressional District 20

So much for that 28-vote lead I posted earlier today in California's 20 Congressional District.

Challenger Jim Vidak went into orbit today, just  like that "unidentified" object over Southern California yesterday, and it now appears that he may just dethrone longtime pol Rep. Jim Costa.

Vidak now has a ONE PERCENTAGE POINT lead over Costa.

Here is more about the "almost" new Congressman from California.

Andy was born in Visalia, CA to mother, Kathy, and father, Jim Vidak, the long time Tulare County Superintendent of schools. The oldest of five children, Andy marks the third generation of Vidaks to call the Central Valley home. Graduating from Redwood High School in 1984, Andy attended Visalia’s College of the Sequoias, California State University Fresno, and went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
After graduation Andy returned home to the Central Valley working for several Westside farms, achieving success and a reputation in California’s produce industry as a dedicated, results oriented manager.
In 1997 through years of hard work, Andy purchased his farm in Hanford, planting and growing cherries. He also became a partner in a lettuce cooling facility in San Joaquin. Andy’s long and diverse career experience in California’s agricultural industry has inspired a deep appreciation and understanding of the many issues facing today’s farms and all who depend upon a strong agricultural economy in the Central Valley, California, and the nation.
As an active lifelong Central Valley resident and grower, Andy has developed a first hand, keen awareness and understanding of the economic and water issues that have created the current financial crisis that plagues California today. He is firmly dedicated to the preservation and future development of California’s agricultural industry through tax relief, regulation reform, and sound environmental and water management planning. Through his work with advocacy groups, including Water for All and Families Protecting the Valley, Andy has shown leadership in tirelessly speaking out, advocating on behalf of new approaches to our water and economic issues and the need for reform in government to bring change to the Central Valley and California.
In 2009, at the height of California’s water crisis and the national recession, Andy saw a broken system of government, which no longer heard the people’s voice, and no longer represented their will. Andy decided to leave his farming operation, and to “fix the mess” that had been created by career politicians who are out of touch and by a government out of control in Washington DC. He announced his candidacy for the 20th congressional district of California, to provide honest and clear representation for real change; to be our voice in Washington DC.

SLAYING OF AARON SHANNON Jr.: LEONARD HALL and MARCUS DENSON, two Alleged Gang Members charged in Halloween slaying of young boy. Both face 130 years if found guilty

No comments:
What's THE REaction:
24th St CripImage via WikipediaLOS ANGELES – Two men accused of fatally shooting a 5-year-old boy on Halloween were charged today with murder and other counts.

Deputy District Attorney Larry Droeger of the Hardcore Gang Division said Leonard Hall, 21 (dob 2/4/89), and Marcus Denson, 18 (dob 11/17/91), are expected to be arraigned in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The men are charged in case NO. BA377814.

Hall and Denson are each charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted, willful, deliberate and premeditated murder.

The complaint includes allegations of personal use of a firearm resulting in death as to Hall and principal use of a firearm resulting in death as to Denson. The criminal complaint further alleges that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

Hall and Denson of the Kitchen Crips criminal street gang allegedly entered rival gang territory the afternoon of Oct. 31. The men allegedly approached the back of a residence which opened up into an alley.

There, a group of men were gathered in a backyard. The child victim, identified as Aaron Shannon Jr., was running around, showing his father and others his Spiderman costume. Hall and Denson allegedly opened fire on the group, fatally striking the young boy and injuring two adult victims. The victims are not associated with any gang.

The boy died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, the prosecutor said. The two adult victims were not seriously injured.

Bail is recommended at $4 million for each defendant. If convicted as charged, Hall and Denson face a maximum term of 130 years to life in prison.

AGHAJANYAN BROTHERS: Burbank Siblings Arraigned on Federal Charges of Defrauding Federal Workers’ Compensation Program

2 comments:
What's THE REaction:
The FBI Badge http://www.altremappe.org/Indyme...Image via WikipediaSANTA ANA, CA—Two brothers pleaded not guilty today to federal charges that allege they submitted bills that fraudulently sought hundreds of thousands of dollars from a government workers’ compensation program for supposedly transporting injured Postal Service employees to medical appointments that never took place.
Roman “Mike” Aghajanyan, 27, and Roland “George” Aghajanyan, 28, both of Burbank, were named in a 30-count wire fraud indictment returned last Wednesday by a federal grand jury. The Aghajanyans were arrested by federal authorities on October 20. The Aghajanyans, who are both free on $75,000 bonds, today were ordered to stand trial on December 28.
The brothers operated two Los Angeles-based transportation companies, A&R Medical Transportation and V&Y Management Incorporated doing business as Prestige Transportation.

Through their companies, the Aghajanyans allegedly billed a government workers’ compensation program for patient transportation in Los Angeles and Orange Counties that never occurred. The indictment also alleges that the brothers grossly inflated the amount of their claims to the Department of Labor - Office of Workers Compensation (DOL-OWCP), as well as private workers’ compensation insurers. The indictment alleges that total losses are at least $300,000.

“This is another significant investigation in our ongoing battle against fraudulent workers’ compensation claims,” said Lance Carrington, Deputy Assistant Inspector General for the Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General. “The workers’ compensation program benefits thousands of postal employees who have received legitimate on-the-job injuries. It is also an expensive program, costing the Postal Service millions of dollars each year. Those costs increase for all of us when false and inflated claims are submitted by health care providers. These fraudulent claims also undermine the system.”

The Department of Labor - Office of Workers Compensation pays for medical treatment, and transportation to obtain medical treatment, for federal employees who sustain work-related injuries and illnesses.
Daniel R. Petrole, Acting Inspector General, United States Department of Labor, stated: “This indictment serves as a warning to those who would fraudulently bill the Department’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs for services not rendered. My office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to uphold the integrity of Department of Labor programs.”

Each count of wire fraud carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

“The alleged fraud in this case undermines an important benefit provided by the federal government and private insurance to injured employees who legitimately require the services of the workers compensation program,” said Steven Martinez, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “The FBI is dedicated to investigating health care fraud with our partners at the state and local level to combat the fraud associated with these programs, so that these important services are protected.”

This case is the product of a joint investigation by the Department of Labor - Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Postal Service - Office of Inspector General.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Love this story coming out of the "other" side of Downtown LA from the LA Times late Monday afternoon.
Nearly 90 people, most of them women, have been busted for "suspicion" of prostitution, lewd conduct, gambling and the use of counterfeit identification at the notorious "Club 907" in Downtown LA, 907 S Hill Street Los Angeles, CA 90015.

Here is the scoop:Three dozen Los Angeles Police officers (that's around 36 to 40 paid officers),  from the Central Division "vice unit,"  busted the "Club 907" at 9th and Hill streets late Friday night. 400 people were packed into the club like sardines in salt water.  The club only has room for 250.  (Get the visual out of your head...)

The club has been under "investigation" for months according to a report in the LA Times on Monday and charges $30 per hour, with "discounts" on certain days of the week. See the above coupon found in the "Yellow Pages."  WTH?

The hostess club, which are permitted by the Los Angeles Police Commission, are prohibited from serving alcohol and do not allow nudity or other "adult entertainment."

Patrons at Club 907 pay the women for "time" and "companionship."  Yeah right.  Save it for the Jury. BTW:  I called the club this afternoon, and they don't have a "website."  I guess this is one of those "strictly need to know" business locations.

Officer shot, killed during foot chase

By AMY TAXIN, Associated Press

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities searched Monday for a big-rig driver accused of killing a police officer during a gunfight after the lawman stopped the trucker for a hit-and-run accident.

Yellow tape and patrol cars blocked access to the park where the Riverside officer was found shot Sunday night, while investigators and search dogs combed the area for clues.

Authorities said the suspect fled in the truck but did not say whether they believe the person remained in the 200-acre Fairmount Park.

Officer Ryan Bonaminio, 27, was on patrol at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday when he pulled over a semi-truck believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident near State Route 60, police said. The driver got out of the truck, ran into the park and was being chased by Bonaminio when the two exchanged gunshots, with at least one shot hitting the officer, Lt. Leon Phillips told The Associated Press.

Backup officers arrived to find him on the ground. Bonaminio, a four-year member of the Police Department and an Iraq war veteran, died at a hospital.

Police did not release a description of the truck, the driver or what company may have employed the person.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered flags flown at half-staff at the state Capitol in honor of the officer.

Bonaminio went beyond the call of duty, "first serving in uniform to defend our nation's freedoms and here at home to protect the people of Riverside," the governor said in a statement. "His courage and dedication in the line of duty will be remembered forever."

Hours after the shooting, Bonaminio's patrol car remained outside the park's entrance as a helicopter hovered overhead and investigators searched the area with metal detectors.

The park was to remain sealed well into Monday afternoon as police continued looking for witnesses, Lt. Steve Johnson said. He did not say if a weapon was recovered.

Bonaminio, who was born and raised in Riverside, is survived by his parents, a brother and sister.

He joined the Army after graduating from high school in 2000 and was a military police officer in Iraq and Kuwait. He also was with a support battalion in Germany.

"Officer Ryan Bonaminio's tragic death is a reminder to all of us in the law enforcement family that the supreme sacrifice of our service is also a cost borne by our loved ones, our families, and our community," police Chief of Police Sergio Diaz said. Bonaminio was the second Southern California policeman killed in the line of duty in the past two weeks. San Diego officer Christopher Wilson, 50, was killed in a shootout on Oct. 27 as officers served an arrest warrant at an apartment.

Qantas A380's out of commission.  Now what....?
By Randy Economy

Australia-
Man, more problems for Qantas Airlines.
After a rough couple of days of operation that saw one plane engine fall off in mid flight, and another plane flight aborted 24 hours after that first incident, Qantas is grounding their famed "A380's" fleet until further notice.  Tonight passengers are scrambling to make other arrangements.
This story is hitting close to home for me.  We have one of very best friends staying with us from Melbourne, Australia for the next several weeks.  She arrived here around 10 days ago, and two days later is when the Qantas problems really took off.

Here is the official notice from Qantas tonight:
"Qantas is continuing an intensive inspection program on all Rolls-Royce engines in its A380 fleet, but operations will be recovered and significant disruptions to passengers should cease within the next 24 hours.
As part of their investigation, Qantas engineers have removed a number of engines to undertake further examination.

Engineers have been investigating the engines in detail and how their components and design perform under operational conditions, as opposed to the original out-of-factory expectations.

The focus of the investigation has been narrowed to the possibility of an oil leakage in the relevant turbine area. However, investigations on other areas of the engine are continuing, in order to rule out other potential issues.

These inspections are taking place in Sydney and Los Angeles with Qantas engineers working closely with Rolls-Royce, as well as the aircraft manufacturer Airbus and Australian regulators.

Qantas will not return its A380 fleet to service until confident the issues have been identified and resolved. At this stage, Qantas does not expect to operate the A380 fleet for at least another 72 hours.

All Qantas aircraft are being utilised to ensure minimal disruption to scheduled international services. Qantas has scheduled extra services from Los Angeles to ensure passengers affected by the suspension of A380 operations are returned to Australia as soon as possible.

The backlog of passengers in Los Angeles is expected to be cleared by last departure from Los Angeles on 8 November with all passengers accommodated on specially chartered relief flights and across scheduled services. A Special Assistance Team has been deployed to Los Angeles to assist.

Hotel accommodation, meals and international phone calls have been provided for passengers impacted by the A380 disruptions.  Qantas will provide compensation for customers who have experienced delays.

Regular updates will continue to be available on www.qantas.com
