Compton, CA

Well, I guess Nicolei Hurtado Ocana isn't going to be getting any "Teacher of the Year Award" any time soon.

The  28 year old math teacher over at Compton High School has been busted on allegations that he sexually abused three female minor students, and tonight he is in deep trouble.

Ocana was charged with two counts of lewd act upon a child, two counts of contact with a minor for a sexual offense and one count each of oral copulation of a person under 18 and misdemeanor child molestation.  Law enforcement officials are claiming that the sexual assaults took place on the Compton High School campus between September 1, 2008, and April 21, 2010 when one of the alleged victims was 15 and the other two alleged victims were 16-years-old.

Ick.  Ocana was arrested Friday and is reportedly being held in lieu of $390,000 bail, look for this bad boy to be in the Compton Superior Court early Tuesday morning.  Stay tuned. (Note: If you have a photo of Mr. Ocana, please email it to me at RREconomy@aol.com. All submissions are confidential).

The "Starlet Bandit" is no American Idol when it comes to bank robbing fame. As a matter of fact, she is dangerous and needs to be stopped before someone gets hurt.

The crazed glammed out stick up gal has  now struck 12 area banks. The FBI wants everyone to help find this out of control bad girl.  The Starlet Bandit is described as "chunky" or "chubby," (that's being polite, she is a fatty)  in her late 20s or early 30s, with a light complexion and blond hair worn in a tousled bun. She was also described as having a red ponytail with blond highlights.

In surveillance footage released by the FBI, she has been seen wearing her signature large black sunglasses, along with an Ecko Unlimited brand T-shirt under a zippered hooded sweatshirt. She was carrying a cell phone and black purse.

The Starlet Bandit is now believed to be responsible for at least 10 robberies including banks in Van Nuys, Hollywood, Mission Hills and Palmdale. Of that number, eight occurred in the last 10 days.

She was seen wearing the black sunglasses, baseball cap, beige hooded sweater and jeans, and was carrying carrying a handbag and a cell phone with glitter or jewels on it.  She left the banks in a white Toyota Avalon with an unidentified male driver.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the Starlet Bandit is urged to contact the FBI at 310-477-6565 or the LAPD at 1-877-LAPD-247.   Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or texting 274637. Tips leading to an arrest can earn up to $1,000.

Meet Elena Kagan, she is about to make history in America.  President Barack Obama has selected her as the next Supreme Court Justice in America.

She has never been a judge, yet she will be overseeing our Nation's Highest Court for the next 2 generations.  She is 50 years old. She has the job of  Solicitor General of The United States, and is on leave as a Professor at Harvard Law School.  Solicitor General?  From Solicitor General to the United States Supreme Court?  Huh? Your kidding, right?

Tonight, people around America are looking at Kagan and asking if she is gay and will her "private" life become an issue during the confirmation hearing process.  I wonder if a member of the mainstream media is going to ask about her "private" life during the press conference later this morning.  BTW.  I don't care one way or the other, I just hope she is honest and open about who she is....period.

Kagan will be replacing  retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.  John Paul is a legend.  He is 90 years old, Kagan is 40 years younger than he is...so you can see that this choice has lots of ramifications.

So, is this "change" that America needs at this stage in our nations history?  Is this the "change" you thought President Obama would bring to America?  Is Kagan the BEST person for the job?

Why was she picked for this lifetime appointment, instead of someone who has experience as a Judge?

BTW: Look for Saturday Night Live to have a field day with this pick, mark my words.  She is the new "Obama Girl."  LOL.

Tell me what you think about this pick.  Is she the right one for the job, or should Obama have picked someone else?

Los Angeles:

The FBI has linked the "20 Questions Bandits" bank robbers to a hold up that occurred here in Artesia at the East West Bank last November 19, 2009 in Artesia.

Now, FBI Agents and detectives with multiple law enforcement agencies in three counties are seeking the public’s assistance in learning the identity and the whereabouts of these stick-up bad boyz.

If you know who the "20 Question Bandits" are. you could be $100,000.00 richer. The "20QBs" are dangerous, and they need to be found. They have robbed at least 11 banks in Ventura, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties.

U.S. Bank, East West Bank in Artesia, Cathay Bank in nearby Rowland Heights, and several Bank of America locations from Oxnard to Newport Beach have been hit by the bandits.

Bank of America is offering a reward of up to $100,000.00 in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for these robberies.

During the various robberies, the bandits were extremely violent and, in some cases, displayed weapons. Witnesses have described four black males, in some cases armed with guns, who have forced bank employees and customers inside the bank to comply with their demands for cash and to follow their instructions. In some cases, the bandits also robbed victims of personal belongings.

During the initial robberies linked to this group, the suspects asked several questions while inside the bank, according to witnesses and were, therefore, nicknamed the "20 Questions Bandits."

The most recent robbery attributed to the 20 Questions Bandits occurred on April 2, 2010 at a Bank of America in the city of Newport Beach. The following is a list of robberies law enforcement has linked to the 20 Questions Bandits:

3/3/09: U.S. Bank, Thousand Oaks, CA
7/2/09: Bank of America, Thousand Oaks, CA
11/13/09: U.S. Bank, Ventura, CA
11/19/09: East West Bank, Artesia, CA
12/7/09: Bank of America, Oxnard, CA
12/10/09: Bank of America, El Monte, CA
1/21/10: Bank of America, Westminster, CA
1/25/10: Bank of America, San Clemente, CA
2/5/10: Bank of America, Pomona, CA
3/10/10: Cathay Bank, Rowland Heights, CA
4/2/10: Bank of America, Newport Beach, CA

The FBI may be reached 24 hours a day at 888 CANT HIDE (888 226-8443).  Make that call. Let's catch these guys.

Bellflower, USA

A burglary suspect is in custody this afternoon after a bold robbery occurred this morning on the 10000 Block of Park Street here in Bellflower that ended with shots being fired by a Sheriff deputy.

At around 9:30 a.m. today, neighbors over on Park Street noticed a man described only as an adult black male committing a burglary and quickly called 911.  When members of the Lakewood Sheriff's station arrived on the scene, they quickly spotted the suspect and a short foot pursuit took place.

The suspect then pulled out a hand gun from his waistband and this is when the officer involved shooting occurred.  The suspect was not hit, and was quickly taken into custody and transported to the Lakewood Sheriff's Station where he faces burglary charges.

The name of the suspect has not been released, and no one was injured.  Whenever a Deputy involved shooting takes place, an internal investigation is launched so the full facts of the case can be documented.

As soon as the suspects name is released, I will be updating the community.

This is the face of that mad man Joseph Mercado who is under arrest today in that brutal massacre over on Devlin Avenue and Civic Center Drive here in Hawaiian Gardens yesterday.  I am calling him the "Devlin Devil" after his killer rampage yesterday morning that has left our entire community around the Gardens is utter shock and sadness.

Mercado is the "prime and only suspect" in the brutal killing of members of the Tarin Family of Hawaiian Gardens.  Ten members of this wonderful family were terrorized by Mercado yesterday morning, that left at least 3 of them dead of gun shot wounds.

Mercado, 27,  is the ex-boyfriend of Serena Tarin and father of their minor daughter.   Mercado is under arrest today.  He was was injured with a graze wound to his head after two patrol officers with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department opened fire on him after they arrived at the scene.

Mercado also poured gasoline on an exterior wall but failed to light it with a match.  This is what we know so far.

  •  Mercado was in a "domestic dispute" with the Serena Tarin.
  • Mercado gained entry to the Tarin household by shooting a lock from a front door.
  • Mercado used a "semi automatic" weapon in his rampage.
  • Shootings took place in several rooms all over the Tarin household.
As soon as funeral arrangements are announced, I will be placing them here on my Blog.  If you have any thoughts about this crime, hit my comment section below!

STICK A NEEDLE IN YOUR EYE: Downey Motorcars owner Ruben Hernandez found quilty of fraud. He used "voodoo" magic to attempt to influence the crime.

LOS ANGELES – A Downey real estate owner who engaged authorities in a high-speed pursuit and used voodoo to influence the outcome of his case has been convicted.

Ruben Hernandez, 34, owner of Downey Motorcars, was found guilty of four counts of filing a false application and three counts of grand theft, and this case is bizarre as in "cultist" weird.

Prosecutors said Hernandez purchased six properties using false social security information and bank statements. Rodriguez used false social security numbers to purchase two properties, obtain home equity lines of credit and open a bank account.

Rodriguez was arrested shortly after the case was filed in January 2008. Hernandez, however, eluded authorities. About a year later, Investigator David Ishibashi of the District Attorney’s Office, Investigator Steve Louie of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Deputy U.S. Marshall Sal Reyes tracked Hernandez down to a bungalow in Pasadena.

On Feb. 12, 2009, as Hernandez and his wife, Aida Gutierrez, 24, were coming out of their driveway, authorities moved in. Hernandez, ultimately, was arrested after engaging investigators in a mile-long, 80-mile-per-hour pursuit.

When authorities executed a search warrant on the home where Hernandez was staying, they discovered a voodoo shrine, the prosecutor said. The shrine included various artifacts and voodoo dolls – dunked head down in cups of water with pins in the eyes – featuring the names of the prosecutor, the investigators assigned to the case and the case number.

WTF? A "voodoo shrine?"  Do people still practice voodoo in Downey?  I thought the City of Downey outlawed voodoo back when "voodoo" was running rampant back in the 1800's?

Deputy District Attorney Eugene Hanrahan of the Major Fraud Section said jurors deliberated for four days before convicting the crime.

Jurors deadlocked on one count of evading arrest and two counts each of filing a false application and grand theft.

Co-defendant Joel Rodriguez, 44, owner of Coast to Coast Mortgage in Downey, was convicted of six counts of filing a false application and five counts of grand theft. The jury deadlocked on one count of grand theft.

As to both defendants, jurors found true a white-collar crime allegation that the loss was more than $500,000 and an excessive-taking allegation that the loss was more than $1.3 million.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance Ito (yep, THAT Judge Ito from the OJ Simpson murder case fame)  said Hernandez and Rodriguez will be sentenced on June 2 in Department 110 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Hernandez faces a maximum prison term of 13 years. Rodriguez could be sentenced to a maximum term of 14 years, four months.

Artesia, CA:

Today the People of Artesia, California gathered to remember the life of a remarkable man who touched everyone in this tight knit enclave.

Councilman Larry Nelson was laid to rest today with pomp and ceremony and love and tenderness.

Longtime friend Ed Bloomfield, an icon himself here in Artesia, remembered the "lovable Larry" as a "real genuine, gentle soul who was larger than life."

"Larry deeply loved his family, friends, and his city and country," Bloomfield said during an emotional graveside service. "Larry would give and give without fanfare, over and over again, to the people of Artesia. He loved this city, and this city loved Larry Nelson."

The funeral today was something this community shall not forget for generations.

Nelson who died on May 1 after fighting a battle with bone cancer was escorted from Holy Family Catholic Church to the historic Artesia Cemetery in a glass enclosed, horse drawn carriage with two magical white horses, and three well dressed Coachmen.

The graveside service, that was attended by several hundred people had a touching 21 Gun Salute from a retired military corp, an Irish bag piper, the launching of white doves, singers (his favorite song  "Happy Trails" was sung today) and taps were played.

Nelson served on Artesia’s City Council since March 1999, and has been mayor twice.

He coined the popular slogan that can still be seen on bumper stickers throughout the city, “Artesia, where every day is a good day.”

He married his wife Pat in 1970, and is survived by her, their son Chip, daughter-in-law Dawn, and grandchildren Austin Gray, Dakota Nelson, and Larry Nelson III.
